trashed too many WUs. Every failed WU reduces your daily quota by one.
Daily quota at Einstein is 8 per host. You are at one. Every successful WU
will increase your quota by one.
Two WUs show "computing error": exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005).
Why? Maybe the infamous screensaver bug.
Consider upgrading to BOINC 5.2.5, might help.

No doubt, you do have the graphics bug. The BOINC upgrade does NOT fix it. You have two choices: 1/ Stop using the screensaver and "Show graphics option; or, 2/ Use the Beta Application (see link under More Information on E@H home page). I recommend option 2. I have been using the Beta App for nearly 3 months. It cured my "Client errors" and the graphics work fine. You should install it now (while you have no work) and wait for tomorrow's quota of 1 new work unit. Once you return some successful work, your quota should go back up to 8.

The upgrade to 5.2.2 that you have just done will not alter the fact that your daily quota for your notebook has been reduced to 1/day. Only successful, on-time completion of workunits can increase the quota. Here's how it works - each time you have a failed, overtime, or aborted workunit (WU) Boinc decreases your daily quota of WUs sent by 1; each time you return an on-time, completed WU your daily quota is doubled. Patience is called for here, my friend, that's all.

No, it's not the version of BOINC that's important, it's the fixes to the BOINC libraries included in the beta science app. Here is a quote from the web page on the beta app.
I think those new libraries were from around the 4.45 era or maybe it was 4.72. Einstein 4.79 was built from older libraries. Irrespective of the graphics bug, going to 5.2.2 should be nice and safe and I feel that we should promote that version to people having problems under older versions. Nobody wants to try to debug problems in older versions :).
Edit: I'm more and more inclined to think that the vast majority of client errors (Not GUI Aborts!!) are caused by the unsuspecting user's screensaver coming on or the user clicking the "show graphics" button. I think we should offer the two clear options of either the beta upgrade (some users might not be comfortable with running beta - why is it still beta??) or with disabling the screensaver and refraining from clicking to show graphics. This second option is actually an easy test to see if the problem of client errors ceases.

It is the 0.18 Einstein beta app that has the graphics bug fix, not the 5.2.2 Boinc client. The Einstein beta is highly recommended here by people who have tried it - there is no instability at all reported.

Actually Stick would be the expert here but I'm sure I've seen him mention some cases of continuing client errors even when using the beta app. Stick has done such a good job of directing people towards the beta app that I really haven't bothered to watch those sort of error reports too closely :).

I agree wholeheartedly. How would we get that information to everyone, just wait until they file a bug report? That's essentially what we've been doing to this point, and it clearly hasn't been sufficient.

EDIT - Can't we do something pro-actively? An emailing, perhaps? Do we have a participant email list compiled, and how much would that tie up the server(s)?

Let's not get too carried away :). Most of the problem will correct itself when the beta app becomes the production app which surely can't be too far away now :).
In the meantime we get people to disable the graphics :). More cpu cycles for science that way :).

I just now checked the download page, and Bonic 5.2.5 is now the recommended version. I hope it clears up all the "cannot attach" problems, we've had a ton of those with 5.2.2.

Agree on that one, too. :-) I just today saw the graphic for the first time (testing my retrograde to 4.19), but even with SetiClassic back in '03, I quickly learned how the graphics (screensaver back then) slow the crunching, and haven't felt the need since.
