I will be seeing AnnieT before Christmas so if there is anything that you would like me to pass on to her e.g. kind regards, spare socks, requests for money, bric a brac, autographs etc then please let me know.

Remind her to avoid the event horizon in her bathtub since once her toe crosses .......well maybe she can tell us what really happens and get her Nobel Prize in Physics

( edit ) Yes MAGIC. How appropriate a cartoon it is that you should slip in while I was composing this. Very topical. On the money. :-)

Thank you Dr Mike.......you can tell I live in the same time zone as you........even though I'm told I am in the Pacific Time zone

SNORT!!!! Well... *stare into space* *note that there appears to be an unusually large amount of space... and re-position eyeballs* That was an interesting search... Thanks Chris ;)))) Decided on this in the end... seemed... appropriate...

Now I understand why my daughter, as a two year old sitting quietly in WH Smith's with a nice picture book, put her sunglasses on. I did wonder why she parked them on top of her head to turn a page and then slowly and reflectively returned them to her nose again straight after in order to study the next picture... Y-e-e-s... :) She now owns a copy of the Kama Sutra :)

Parenting skills eh. You either have em or you don't :)))

If I recall correctly the Lady in Question had to attend to some family matters later so was measuring her intake. But I will let her confirm that.

Yes... I will confirm that :) I'm a "let me lie here and die with some dignity" kind of drinker Bill ;} and having been up all night trying to track down whether my other half was still amongst the living, and if so what ward he would be living on, in a state of the art hospital where staff have no clue what to do with a ringing phone other than pick it up and put it straight back down again... I thought it best not to stagger into the high dependency cardiac unit too boss eyed, shove him out of bed, and have a nap till it was time for me to be carted off :) Hence the little glass :)

@Magic :) I see you were correct about the tinfoil :) My event horizon bath is just one of many phenomena and theories I have my toes stuck in to. I would have won multiple Nobel prizes by now I'm sure *somewhat miffed sniff* but I have been having a long-standing problem getting my armchair through lab doors and until the scientific community recognises this obstacle to my advancement, things like my spring theory just gather dust... as does my dust theory...

Oh... and before you lot start banging on about double posts and whatnot... I'm awarding Magic with a twinkly star :) for his renegadedness :)

edit: I've remembered what I forgot :/ and I'm not happy I forgot :( I think it was David's birthday yesterday? HAPPY BIRTHDAY if it was David!! :) Here, have a twinkly star!! :))))))))))))

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

Annie you are truly a celtic

Annie you are truly a celtic [strike]witch[/strike] warrior & I say that in the nicest possible way. You have an outstanding main brain bendy bone and are rather better looking than Kate Bush. I must apologise for my errrr .... [strike]Childish Hissy Fits[/strike] Inner Basil Fawlty Moments .... but you committed a terrible act : hid the Bleedin' Obvious in Plain Sight. A very aggressive thing to do to a straight math/science graduate. A total flummoxer. Puts entire lobes at risk. But as usual we may turn to Mr Larson for clarity :

... I must remember to let you look in my ear to see what's wrong with my toe ...

Ah. But seeing that I don't know you that well, then I fear you must settle for me looking at your toe ( provided it is not entertaining a tap hole on the day ) in order to see how your ear is going.

Your entourage I see has followed you from the Exciting Land Of Alien Listening to this mere Shire of Gravitational Ennui. Hmmm ... now is it just my poor memory or is Monsignor Haselgrove more gravitationally influencing his surroundings than when we met in Germany in 2011 ? Mind you Richard, I am too ! :-)

As for drinking alcohol I am known as a cheap drunk or two-pot screamer. This, I am told, is because I don't drink enough .... come to mention it I have passed quite a few of the police's roadside alcohol deficiency tests. I must ask though : the photo surely shows cold beer being drunk ? :-)

As for the some-sort-of-rodent-with-it's-head-in-a-towel-roll-core-on-a-swivelly-chair : It's a five way point of ground contact. Good. Never liked the four's, too unstable. Six is too flashy. There are levers on both sides of the seat including the DownUndinator. Nice. As for the rodent I feel there is a [strike]helicopter[/strike] metaphor hovering. Just maybe the rodent fell forwards - possibly on the rebound from a tilty-backy episode - while looking down the tube ( probably checking to see if it was the same universe at the other end, see Hawking & Thorne's lesser known Hand Towel Roll Conjecture ), and thus got stuck on desk impact. As you do.

Cheers, Mike.

Sadly, I was behind the camera on that day, so you'll have to find an alternative recorder of the effects of good Yorkshire ale on the local gravitational field.

But I'll leave you to identify the local reprobates for the benefit of the new crop of grasshoppers.

First of all, at risk of

First of all, at risk of having my twinkly star (perhaps even both of them) rescinded, I must point out that Leonard Nimoy neither is nor played any of the people I mentioned.

Second, how can I have left off my list the name of the eminent scientist Dr. Bunsen Honeydew? Shame on me.

Third, the only season 5 that had its episode 10 air in 2004 that came to my mind was The West Wing, but nothing about The Stormy Present (in which Bartlet, Walken, and a former president go to the sudden funeral of another former president) seemed to have anything to do with physics.

Fourth (actually second, but it makes more sense presented fourth (or would have if Mike hadn't returned)), as I was reading Mike's post in which he issued the guess in big red letters, I was thinking I would post something along the lines of "I suppose Oppenheimer would be far too obvious." Apparently, it wasn't, but I returned to the thread too late.

While Mike is looking in Annie's ear, he can also take a peek at my kidneys to see if I have any more stones in there, like the one that woke me at 4am Wednesday, then stopped hurting just as I pulled into the hospital's parking lot. (If you're wondering, I went in anyway and let them run a bag of IV fluid through me, interrupted by rolling me down the hall for a CT scan that my doctor had previously ordered and I was putting off. Now I suppose I should alert her and my urologist that I had it done.

Also in the if anyone is wondering department, I have just enjoyed my hearty Thanksgiving feast of a cheap frozen pizza enhanced with extra cheese and bacon. What, you may further wonder (or not), am I thankful for? Right now, that the smoke from whatever I previously made in the oven and spilled itself did not set off the smoke detector component of my home alarm system.

Bonus bit of effluvia: I just saw the promo for tomorrow night's broadcast of "Grandma got run over by a reindeer."

Follow-up on business that

Follow-up on business that has become new whilst I was catching up with and responding to the older business:

No, Annie, thanks but my birthday has not yet arrived.

But thanks for the twinkly star anyway.

Hmmm.... Definitely a more 'trim, taut, terrific' Richard, back in 2011. Beard seems whiter and bushier now, as well ... Perhaps he's getting ready for his new yuletide job!! :-).

He's still a top bloke though ... Lost none of his extremely sharp intellect!!

That 'little guy' trying his best to hide out of view is HBE (aka Bikeman) who, very sadly, must be overworked these days as he doesn't visit the boards nearly as much as he used to.

I can't quite work out what Mike was thinking at that instant. Is he sneering or snarling ... or just plain (hurry up, get it over with) bored?? :-).

Cheers,
Gary.

Now there's some history. I think I was about to laugh at something someone said. Looks more of a fish out of water look though. I might even be just thinking "Wow, I am having my photo taken with a special name badge on and are my sunglasses in a cool enough position ?" Possibly I was still dazed after Bikeman's exceptional lecture on how GPU's can compute .... they use numbers represented by groups of electrons I think. :-)

Cheers, Mike.
