So, I randomly look at what work units my computers have, and I notice that my 450MHz box, that I bought recently at a thrift store for $5.95, is crunching the same unit as the man himself, Bruce Allen!

I know this is technically no big deal, but it's awesome that my reliable little slowpoke is crunching the same unit as the project scientist.

Not to mention that my slow little chugger's RAC is about 26 credits while Bruce's is 1100! His top of the line system teamed up with my old fogey, forging the path of science!

Well I think it's cool :P

Matt, I mean this in the nicest possible way, have you been out the front door in the last 6 to 12 months? :P

I've been linked with him a few times recently. Don't know if the units are still visible in my account but to be honest I can't be bothered to look. Your welcome to have a look though.
Don't think it means much considering his got over 600 hosts to his account

Geez, I try and bring a little fun and enthusiasm to the project and I get a bunch of stuffed-shirts!!!

Well, you can sit there with your top hats and monocles and sip tea! I'm going to be excited about this and the project!

Matt, thanks! And keep on crunching...

Bruce

PS: I've been using Einstein@Home to 'burn in' the nemo cluster during the last couple of months, but over the coming weeks it will start getting used heavily for LIGO data analysis. In the future Einstein@Home will run as a 'bottom feeder' job on Nemo, but only when it would otherwise be idle. So Nemo will not be contributing as much to the project as during the past couple of months.

Is the cluster going to be doing the pre/post processing of the data we're working on, or something different entirely?

It will be doing all types of LIGO data analysis, including Einstein@Home pre-processing and post-processing, targeted searches for known pulsars, searches for binary inspiral chirps, and other types of general LIGO data analysis work.

I did say, "in the nicest possible way" but then I went and added that smiley with poking out tongue and spoilt the whole thing ;-)

Crunch on.

PS: I went scuba diving with John Lippmann once, it was only in a small pool but we were trying out re-breathing gear (I want some :) and I still brag about that :-D

I also thought it was rather cool the first time I noticed it, but after spotting several more instances I came to realize that the chief scientist here does a lot of crunching. Sharing a WU with him isn't rare at all; we all do, and quite often at that.
