[tongue firmly in cheek]

In attempting to see how soon my wingmen would be returning results from the S5R4 workunits we shared in common, I started browsing through a few other of my 'pending' workunits, when what do I spy?

This troublesome WU

Come now Bruce! I've been waiting nearly a month for a mate for my lonely task. :( Go kick that 'lil Opteron in the tushy and get it makin' with the calculating! ;) I mean, if I can't depend on YOU of all those at E@H to have my back on these matters, then what hope have I?

[/tongue firmly in cheek]

Okay, yet another of my meaningless posts, but I got a giggle out of the situation. :-D

You are right to raise this - I ought bring this serious breach to the attention of project management.... at nought but the highest level! :-) :-) :-)

Looks like he has another five days to come up with the goods. It's also doing two others on the same timelines. I wonder what sort of box it is in - is that a notebook type of processor?

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

... and my other CPU is a Ryzen 5950X :-) Blaise Pascal

It is a first generation Opteron, used in workstations. It has performances similar to my Opteron 1210, which is clocked slower.

I agree!! Make haste to bring this to the highest level!

Clearly our poor, overworked dear Dr. has been spending so much time at the servers that he's failed to notice that the cleaning staff knocked out the wall plug on his workstation a week and a half ago! 8-O

Actually the first listed

Actually the first listed computer in the WU has piked out already. It's an S3 'dreg' ( 1150.90 freq @ 461 seq ). If Bruce's doesn't come back it'll be re-issue time ( can't have a quorum of one ). However he may not have actually been back to his office recently! Perhaps he is, as we speak, huddled & sleeping inside a warm server bay, nestled and melding with the grid of some multi-mega-node Blade Beast? :-) :-)

Cheers, Mike.

Well... YOU try getting your grant proposal approved when you add a line item of "Sauna" in it. :-P

However, a few racks of servers (easy), a small room (no problemo.. nobody else wants those), some redwood (under an item for "shelving") and it's time to bring a towel and sweat out that tension while you 'work' on your project. ;)

(Note to scientific community: Do NOT attempt to go beyond the dry sauna to the steam sauna... the servers won't like that and you NEED them to make the heat!)

Soooooo ..... no flicking water on them with leafy birch branches then .... :-)

Cheers, Mike.

Ok, your complaint has

Ok, your complaint has reached project management.

The machine in question is a Nemo node, which are pretty busy with other stuff these days. Although being a dual core it was assigned only three tasks - yes, really busy. This account once had the highest RAC the project has seen so far...

Hehe, just so long as you didn't take me too seriously. ;) Just having a bit of fun at the (hopefully mild) expense of Dr. Allen. :-D

Thank you Bernd.

Well, Thunder there was a node connection there after all. I think another Bruce Allen has joined the project recently, so co-incidences will abound. :-)

Cheers, Mike.

I dunno, I'm still a little

I dunno, I'm still a little confused... a Nemo node? Sheesh, I thought Pixar was done rendering that project long ago. :-P I could have sworn I saw the completed movie some time back. :-\

(God I really hope that anyone that reads my posts by now has learned to look for subtle clues that I'm in "sarcastic twit" mode. ;) )
