I have compute errors using 0.18 and the standard version of E@H, although I have had some WU's complete successfully in the past. When I compute on P@H, the application seems to hang from time to time. When I catch it, I reboot the computer and the application starts up again. Finally, S@H seems to just crunch, although I'm using the 'optimized' application for my Centrino.
Because rebooting when P@H hangs seems to work, it seems to me that the boinc 4.45 is not working well with my machine. I leave applications in memory and don't use any screen savers (just blank).
Should I download a new version of boinc, albeit a developmental one, in order to run E@H?

I know nothing about the alpha or beta versions of BOINC that are out there; but, since I helped steer you toward Einstein 0.18 (with less than stellar results), I thought I'd try to "help out" here, too. I saw this in Message 19105 on another board today: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?dev=1 . Supposedly, it's the link to the latest BOINC test version. Disclaimer: don't blame me for anything that happens. One other thing: Have you considered reverting back to BOINC 4.19?

Boy, you are having a real time of it aren't you!! I had a look at the visible messages for many of the "Client errors" on the website and there are a range of things to see. Just go to your results list and click on the ResultID of the latest couple of errors to see what I mean. The stuff shown includes instructions on reporting the error. There is an email address given so I would strongly suggest you cut and paste and email the appropriate contents to the address listed. Look in the stderrdae.txt file in your BOINC folder for full error messages. I'm sure one of the developers will be along shortly to look at this.

I noticed you had a couple of successful WU's with BOINC 4.45/Einstein 4.79, then back to the "old troubles". Any thoughts on what happened?

No, but I'll take the advice of setting the switch to remove the application from memory when pre-empted as a first step. Maybe this switch has some side-effects that are influenced by the hiberation cycling I do, or what ever.
One small issue is that when E@H goes belly up, Boinc downloads a bunch of S@H wu's, so my E@H testing is slowed. I don't want to suspend S@H because that is the only project I can reliably contribute to. It never fails for some reason.

I just noticed on the S@H message board that although S@H runs at true priority 1 on Win XP, there was a change in the bonic api after the last E@H build and as a result E@H runs at one step higher priority (2) on windows xp. There was also a reference to some Outlook operation that interfers with things.
Could this be the source of my problem? (i.e. the E@H build is not up to date for the current boinc software)

I am not a good resource for that question, so I hope one of the developers also answers. However, I can say that the build issue is one of the reasons I changed to the Beta App and the Beta App fixed my Client error problems. I know the Beta didn't work for you last time. But you might have had two problems. Do you have any idea idea what why you were able to get those three successful WU's before the problem returned? I would think about trying the Beta again only if you think that the "graphics bug" might have triggered the return of the problem?

I hadn't seen this post when I responded to the other one. Given the fact that you have tried memory change, it might be time to try the Beta again. My recollection of the "graphics bug" was that, once it triggered, all subsequent WU's were subject to "Client errors".

Einstein 4.79 "supposedly" works OK with BOINC 4.45 if you don't use graphics, but, there is still the "BOINC Library" issue out there. If things start working OK again after the "memory" change, I'd stay with 4.79. On the other hand, if you start getting errors again, I'd give the Beta another shot.
