This was the logo that was used by myself for a STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) community service project. The project was installing BOINC on a computer lab and teaching students about the distributed computing and science behind the projects. Sadly we did not win however it was a very popular project. If you have looked at the news page for BOINC you will have noticed it is linked to.
Here is the logo:

Nice!
There seem to be references to CDPN, SETI and maybe even LHC in this,
but some of are wondering if the "N" referes to a particular BOINC project?

CPDN, SETI and LHC... you hit the nail on the head.
Well the N was just an attempt to show the graphic capibilites of BOINC in general. When this logo was made, and is still the a fact, is that Einstine is not accepting new users and the school does not have an account.
If you are interested the school account for the 30 computers that run boinc is "Newport Independent Schools"

The images are all letters for the word boinc - except the computer didn't quite fit in so they stuck the N on the screen. It reminds me of the Novell Netware logo that's seen on Novell's products.
I'm sure sometime in the future, there will be a project that can use that N. :)

Novell was the first thing that came to my mind too. All jjhat needs to do is change the colour to e.g. blue and change the shape of the N a little bit and he's in the clear.
