I have knoppix 6.2 on a 8 gig stick that Id like to run boinc with.
I am a wet dripping noob when it comes to knoppix / linux so be gentle. I do have some exp with command lines and commands etc but it's been a while since I played with that kind of stuff in the raw.
Essentially, is this something that would be fairly easy to do or is it going to involve a lot of setup and tweaking to get working?
I put a linux based boinc on the stick but it didn't seem to execute. (I am pretty sure I probably did something wrong) I think it also came with some boinc on it if I am not mistaken but I couldn't get that to run either.
Is this something that can be a quick sort of step by step here or just too involved?
Please, if it's a major pain or really convoluted, don't waste your time on my behalf.
Thanks in advance.
Aaron

Thanks for the link there. I did check it out and it is very imformative. I never did get it working right on a 2 gig stick. Following his directions, the thing never fully installed on the stick but instead kept asking me at boot do I want to install or just 'run' without any changes. That was a pain. On a 2 gig stick, even after playing with the memory allocation a bit, I never could get it to fully fire up a boinc project, I was at the point where it would download the files, only to abort them at the last minute saying I need like an extra 50 meg to run this or that.
I ended up putting it as a full install on my 8 gig stick which appears to be working great so far, it is a genuine install so I dont have to play around at boot up, it just jumps right into it. In retrospect, I believe a 4 gig stick would have worked just as well, I just didnt have one at the time. I am wondering if these projects are taking up a bit more room than when he first wrote that program, Im thinking maybe that is why a 2 gig stick is getting starved for room. I honestly don't know but do know its working fine on a 8 and I bet would work great on a 4 gigger too.
The reason i wanted it on a stick is so that it is totally portable. I have plenty of computers around me when I am working, and depending on where I am at, depends on which computer Ill be sitting close to. I don't want to actually do a seperate install on each one, as it might be two weeks for example, before I have to work in the PBX room again, or a week before I have to play with the historian in the black box room, so don't want projects sitting there going stale. By having it all contained on my stick, I can just plug and play at whatever computer I am close to, and take my work with me so I dont lose any.
Again, thank you for your assistance in directing me to the site, and now we got one more computer *more or less* to crunch with.
