Are all beta test app built for crunching S5 run? When they are applicable for S4 data will be today's app be applicable too? Are there some fundamental improvements or changes in that how will be the new data processing (such as looking for new things, using new methods...)?

They'll be the ones we start the (first) S5 run with. I don't expect to finish the run with them, because I still hope for some further improvements in speed from the work with Akos.

See my answer in the thread mentioned in previous post. I'd consider it more likely that you can indeed continue to use e.g. Akos Apps than that you can't, but I can't promise right now.

Taking the higher sensitivity of the detectors during S5 and the improved speed of the Apps into account in the new setup will allow us to dig deeper into space than we did with S4 data; but apart from the speed there's no difference in the Apps that would be noticable by the participants.

Deeper only in terms of distance and total volume of data processed, or is each work unit going to be crunched for more interations of the analysis loop to farthe amplify weak signals?

Try reading the S5 Update thread in the Science forum. I think you will find your answer in what Ben Owen had to say - ie deeper as in more megaparsecs with the tantalising prospect that because more of us are joining and staying and because of help from Hungary, they have the option of "doing a longer search this time". It's nice to know that our contributions are supplying them with options :).

And to think that a couple over in Seti-land were essentially saying that they felt that Akos' speedups were a bad thing because they were going to cause us to run out of work too quickly and that the project would become a bit like LHC with only intermittent work. I'm not quoting directly but merely indicating what I thought the essence of their comment was all about. I was pretty sure at the time that it was just spreading some FUD. I'm really looking forward to S5. Here's hoping for a smooth transition. Go test that beta app if you are able to!! :).

EDIT: In fact, if you are just using the standard app at the moment and happen to browse through here, please do yourself a huge favour and install the Beta app immediately. You will speed up your crunch rate by a factor of three or so and help get rid of the last of the S4 work more quickly. Just read Bernd's sticky thread about the Betas available and follow his link to the Beta test page.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Gary.
