Yesterday I got some special WUs for Albert 4.37, running twice as long and with an initial replication of 6(!) but still a quorum of 3.
Are these test runs or will this be the new default?
They have a too low estimated FlOps count so be careful not to set the caches too large, as long as BOINC has not adjusted the correction factor yet.
For example this one : resultid=27609089

Any informations on the new WU type?

minimum quorum 3
initial replication 6
What is that? - If I were bad willing, I would think , that look like discrimination of slow boxes.
Or but any sense-making answer?

Looks like a method to keep faster machines from hitting the MDQ.
But because the scheduler is pretty indiscriminant, a host can
download 5 "extra long" WUs and 27 "shorties" and still run out
of work.
There are 10^11 stars in the galaxy. That used to be a huge number. But it's only a hundred billion. It's less than the national deficit! We used to call them astronomical numbers. Now we should call them economical numbers. - Richard Feynman

And the last three boxes become sense-free employ. Not acceptable. Initial replication "4" - I would understand, but SIX???
Sorry, I running out my WUs and leave E@H to another project.

What do you mean here?

WTF is the developer of this moronism?
3 Results quorum and the other 3 crunch only for the electric power company ;(
This is the greatest economics absurdity I have ever seen.
I think, the scheduler has a problem to offer enough WUs. So it is a trick to give all members work, until the S5 is ready for crunching.
The project is running too fast, since Mr. Akos Fekete build the excellent Turbo-Alberts, an the person in charge will be overstrained.
Please stop this absurdity, or reduce it from 6 to 4 like S3 Project.
Yours sincerely
Chris

Which I meant, it is that those computers, which announce their results as the latter will have been completely sense-free employed, because the first three computers were already sufficient, in order to obtain valide results.

I see, very good point. They will also have a higher

Please don't misunderstand my question, I'm not mad about it, I'm just curious.
If a project changes the settings of a small series like this, it usually means that they need those results really soon - so it's even nice to have been choosen for such a task :-)
(um ... randomly choosen of course - *grin*)

It could also be a glitch in the scheduler/work generator, ran some data twice.

>I believe that it has the ability to speed things up, actually... BOINC has the ability to remove WUs from your cache and issue new WUs in their place if the project has reached a quorum for a WU. ie they don't want to waste your processing time on an answer they already have. If they send 6 out, 3 may come back quickly and new WUs reissued right away to everyone. I believe they went to the 3 initial replication system when the 'Alberts' came out to increase their processing efficiency by lowering the replication to that necessary to form a quorum(3)....which is OK to a degree but it can take up to 4 weeks or more to get a WU quorum if one of the hosts fails to return a result and one more replication must be issued for another possible 2 week period etc.etc. If they issue 6 initially they may avoid this problem by taking advantage of the Akosf Hungarian Revolution. Longer WUs may be an attempt to increase host processing time to relieve traffic on their servers and solve the MDQ problem for fast hosts....just a guess....Cheers, Rog.
