currently there are 4 preference profiles: default, home, school, and work. Would it be possible to default to these 4 profiles but allow individuals to rename them to something more meaningful?

Sorry, this would require a significant rewrite of the server- and possibly even client code. These "venue" names are hardcoded in a couple of places.

The BAM! BOINC Account Manager allows the use of your own venue names. This is supported by all present BOINC back-end versions and clients since some version 5.
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/PrefsImpl also shows that it shouldn't matter what the venue name is, will take care of that.

Oh, that's news to me. I vaguely remember the trouble to implement another venue "mobile", which finally was dropped again, IIRC for being too complicated.

Is it possible to change the profile name yet?
It seems being allowed on other BOINC instances.
Can I request somewhere to change it in the backend if over GUI is not yet allowed.
