Hi Akos, I had read your post about being able to increase the Seti Enhanced app's performance by about 20%. I am trying to build an optimized Seti Enhanced app using ICC9.1 and IPP5.1. Is there a way I can contact you regarding your ideas for optimizing the Seti Enhanced app? Thanks.

Regards, Daniel.

Hi! I think you should improve other parts of the sourcecode instead of eliminate the weakness of the compiler from the source.
You would be able to get much bigger speed improvement with better algorithms.
The gain of instruction optimizations are always limited.

You can reach me on fekete.akos-[at]-freemail.hu if you want, but i usually don't have enough time for 'impossible missions'.

the standard (non-enhanced)

the standard (non-enhanced) SETI@home app was quite inefficient, which is why it took so long (and why the optimised apps were so much faster, because they were more efficient)

and i doubt that the enhanced app is perfect by comparison, i've heard it's much better, but still lacking

as Akos says, there are better/faster routines available now, and the sourcecode is the place to make changes, the compiler is only a "converter" from text code to binary, to make significant improvements you've got the improve the code that goes into the converter in the first place

However there was an intel

Message 37968 in response to message 37967

However there was an intel 9.1 recompiled version that used to be available and just from using a more efficient compiler improved times upto 20-35%. Some say 40%.
It also killed a few bugs from the official app. I recently tried going back over to the more recent official app and i'm glad i made a backup because in under an hour it had screwed 9 units. Gone back to the optimized app and it i crunching throught them merrily. Finished a number.

Take heart that a few tallented optimizers are currently in the testing phase of their apps and they should be availabe soon. Understandably they do not wont to release anything uptill they are sure its 100% trouble(for them) free

Just to make that clear (you don't need to reply to that) It was not only the compiler. There've been changes to the code too. ;)

Sorry my mistake. Missunderstood many of the posts. Didn't mean to imply you hadn't put a lot of work into it already.
The fact you had put a lot of work in has been proven to all those who thought they could do the same (just recompile) because they couldn't reach anywhere near the performance of your app and still had trouble with bugs. Not to mention the all trouble they seem to be having creating anything for windows systems.
Just be to clear to every one else. My post was very wrong

Again, sorry Crunch3r (another great man who I wish I had the brains of) :)
