Since I installed BOINC 5.8.8 there have been two ocassions, that I have seen, that Einstein units have reached 100% and the "to Completion" column is ---, but the Status is still "waiting to run".
It should have uploaded and the status column should be "waiting to Report".

Has anybody else noticed this. So far I have only noticed it on Einstein.
Part of the problem maybe that on this computer Einstein is on a very low resourse share, 4.71% (one hour/day) and usually when the Einstein unit has completed it switches to another project.

5.8.8 - completion/upload of units

Since installing 5.8.8, I have had only one instance of an app's hang up while switching resources with protein's & Einstein...I just hit the update Tab..

But, I have looked at your CPU times for credit granted and they are really great... I have only improved by 2k per WU for approx 54 credits..It seems as though this 5.8.8 is doing what Asokf was doing with SSE2 improvements..

Anyway, I haven't done programming since the early 60's with fortran...so I cannot claim to know all the ins and outs of the current languages..

but you can also reference directly toBOINC message boards also.

That much of a performance

That much of a performance boost? I seriously consider getting that app... how stable is it? And is it any good on AMD CPUs?

I am always beat on CPU time

I am always beat on CPU time against an AMD..and I see some AMD utilizing linux..always faster than me..check this for example WU ..also no problems with stability that I have noticed...

.but see the comparison in CPU times my 2.8 Ghz 5.8.8 versus a 2 CPU's 3.0Ghz model using 5.4.11 WU ...

current list of downloads I started d/l each 5.8.x revision since Jan 12th till the present 5.8.8

there is also a more complete listing of all dowmloads

The latest version of the

The latest version of the Einstein app checkpoints after processing is basically finished but before the clean up operations begin. The 5.8.8 client sees a checkpoint event as an chance to change which app is running. So you will see Einstein tasks stopped at 100% but not finished more often with the new client.

The 5.8.8 does not really increase processing speed. However since it tries to change apps only at checkpoints there is much less wasted CPU time especially if you have multiple projects or CPUs on your host. So overall output may increase.

My view: The 2-cpu machine is likely hyper-threaded. I was under the impression that since 2 tasks are running simultaneously it will take less than twice as long to complete them both. So the reported completion times are not quite doubled, and therefore mis-leading.

Appreciate your comments, I guess what I meant to say was that in this WU the 2 CPU 3.0 Ghz using 5.4.11 had a CPU time of 21+ k times versus my little 2.8 Ghz using 5.8.8
had a time of 14 k...I never liked 5.4.11 because in other projects my credit allowed for CPU time was sometimes halved, especially in Rosetta, so I reinstalled 5.3.12tx36 and things got better..but, the 5.8.x series , I believe is better, at least, for me...
