Hello all,
Since August i installed BOINC , my poor PC worked but i never got any credit because i had a very low memory 64 MB only. Hopefully after a month and a half, with the help of the Moderator of forum i could improve the memory of my PC by adding some other 128 MB of memory , now i crunch with 192 MB. My laptop is very old and had a very slow speed , fortunately with the help and directives of the Instructors of the forum i could even make greater the free space of my local disk.
Seti having finished its work, i could get 17 credits, at the same time EAH was crunching and is still crunching and i wait eagerly my credits , just the Progress of Einstein is 74.30%, CPU time 73:32:15 and time to completion 25:25:19.
Just yesterday Seti has began a new project to crunch with a progress of 17.25 % , CPU time 03:17:25 and time to completion 12:24:43 , for the moment it is preempted and EAH is running .
I am already member of 2 differents teams for Seti and Einstein , and by reading the threds here , i realise that it is not a good decision to change teams , so i will remain in my teams. Or perhaps i'm wrong , i don't know , i chose my teams since the beginning just by random, i didn't know that choosing a team was an important decision .

Hi Ariane!
Good you followed Gary Roberts' advise to start a thread!
And I'm so happy for you that you could get your "old clunk" to work, one should never have thought that. So now it's very exciting to see how long time it will take you to finish an Einstein WU!
And it will be interesting to see how many "old clunkers" there are out there connected to this project.
I can't join this club as I have a P4 2,8 GHz, and I used to finish an Einstein WU in about 8 hours. I use the past tense of the word use, because I decided to join Rosetta@Home instead of Einstein@Home, so they get 30 % of my cycles now, but I'm sure Einstein@Home will have enough cycles for their WU's with all the "old clunkers" out there!
There are so many fine projects out there, so maybe you should look into these and maybe join some more? It's really exciting! I love distributed computer projects, one can now find all kinds of projects that covers the interests one can have. There are substitutes for all projects now, and with the start up of Orbit@Home and soon PlanetQuest, ones interests for astronomy can be covered!
So go on, Ariane! Happy crunching! :-D
[EDIT] I thought it might interest you how I distribute my cycles, to give you an idea of how one can covers ones interests.
I give LHC 50% of my cycles as this is my pet project, as I'm mostly interested in particle physics and quantum mechanics.
Then I give Rosetta@Home 30 % of my cycles, as they have just come out of Beta and it is a very interesting project which is used to predict and design protein structures, and protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions. I used to crunch ProteinPredictor, as this project is in about the same area, but their client made my electronic dictionary unstable, and as a non-English speaking person (I live in Europe in a non-English speaking country!) I really need my dictionary! So I had to quit it!
And then I give Seti, which you already know, 20 % of my cycles, as I love them over there! It was after all them who started DC and BOINC, and I started on Seti Classic and I will always have a small part for them of my cycles! But because they have so many crunchers, I don't think I have to give them more than these 20 % or even less, if I join more projects!
I hope you can find some inspirations in this and maybe join some other projects ?

Fuzzy, LOVE your emoticons! Please post back on how Rosetta crunchtimes compare to Einstein.
Ariane, I'm back from an impromptu 2-day trip down to the Atlantic shore to fix one of my clients' stranded auto, and then to my friend's boat (I'm his "designated Gilligan" (R.I.P., Bob Denver)) for a nice ride out on the ocean and back. I'm happy to see your great progress on the Einstein Workunit. You should expressly invite people to join you in the 100 hours Club, even though your own membership is suspect (looks like you will finish your present WU in 97 hours).

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you, all!
I haven't finished my Rosetta WU yet, but so far it says 75 % finished in 02:08:17 hours with 01:31:05 to go. But I don't think it will take that! My 4.72 client (I can't change to 5.* as LHC isn't compatible (Yet!)! :-( ) always overestimate, even it's better that 4.45!
And as I said to Ariane, my Einstein WU's used to take 8 - 9 hours. But I haven't my computer hidden here, so you can see my times yourself.
But maybe Rosetta WU's are just as different from each other as LHC WU's?? The longest 1,000,000 LHC WU i have crunched, took about 7 1/2 hour! And some of them runs into the wall after only a few minutes! The ones I crunch right now are all 1,000,000 which finish in about 30 minutes!
RE: RE: Fuzzy, LOVE your

I've been satisfied crunching with 4.37 client, but on advice, I decided to help test the 5.1.x and ran into a problem installing (New thread in "Problems and Bug Reports"), so crunching has come to a grinding halt pending resolution. Why, O' why did I try to fix something that was working fine? ;(

:-D
Exactly my words! And I have been very happy with my 4.72 client, no problems at all! I have noticed though that after I recently detached from Seti and attached again (I took a break from DC computing!), the downloads kind of choked, so I tried to reset it. It still choked, so I detached and attached again, and now it seems to work fine! But it cost me several download and computing errors, and a couple of WU's that simply disappeared! Oh boy!
But as I said to Ariane, LHC is my absolute pet project, so I go with them! And as long they can't run on 5.* clients, I stick with my 4.72! And I'm not playing with optimized Seti clients neither! ;-)
But as long I don't fiddle about with it, have my cache as low as it almost can be (0.1!) it does what it shall do! And the debts minds their own business!

Dear Michael and dear Fuzzy ,
Thanks a lot for your posts , very interesting , i will try to see if my old computer would be able to bear more than these 2 projects : EAH and Seti, if so i'm very interested in quantum mechanics too , for the moment i will wait the EAH's results and my famous credits for these 100 hours of work , and then i will decide . Just now another project of Seti is working but now preempted with 25.24% Progress ,05:01:44 CPU time and 14:53:35 to completion ,
EAH is running with 79.41% Progress, 78:33:40 CPU time and 20:20:41 to completion in regression , it's 7:30 pm here .
Fuzzy , your emoticons are really adorable, i wished could use such things , perhaps someday.
Michael, i'm so sorry i will not frequently see you here , but perhaps you would come just to say hello and to have a cup of coffee with us .
Cheers
Ariane

Dear Ariane,
You will indeed continue to see me here as I shall be tracking your progress. When there is no work for me to do at the repair shop and I can wrangle a ride down to the shore, I take the opportunity to get away from the stress and filth of Philadelphia and spend a day or 3 on my friend's boat, to which I enjoy a standing invitation. I leave Einstein crunching happily (without any distractions from my gaming, surfing, etc) while I am away, but the first things that I check upon my return are my rig's progress and the Einstein message boards, particularly your threads!
I would suggest that it might be a good idea for you to wait a while before attaching to any more projects. Your computer and internet connection/electrical supply both seem to be stretched thin by the present load of Einstein and Seti, and the Boinc scheduler is just now settling in to a comfortable routine. You will want to check this through Gary, of course, as he is more knowledgable about these things, while it is merely a "gut feeling" on my part.

Michael, you asked about my
)
Michael, you asked about my time for crunching a Rosetta WU, and here's the data for my first WU:
03:44:03 which seems, well, I don't know!?
The WU is this and it seems that only one result is needed, so I have got my first credit over there! Whoo hooo!!!
RE: Michael, you asked

WOW!!! 28-day deadline? Very non-linear crunching workunit there, though. 3.4 minutes/1% over the last 25% vs 1.8 minutes/1% over the first 75% is quite a hitch! Good going, Fuzzy. Thank you.

You're wellcome. And it seems that the processing curve is very logarithmic! The WU was through several roundrobin turns, and after the last period, after the time I reported above, it had finished about 87 % and that was one turn later!
My next WU has finished it's roundrobin turn with 33.33 % after 00:26:58 with 02:55:06 to go! And I think my BOINC manager 4.72 is pretty accurate in this estimate.
I found this site discussing WU's sent out to only one user. Very informative!
