10 GB disk space for BOINC but still "no" or "not enough" disk space

I have no idea why boinc says it gets not enough disk space. I set boinc to use 10 GB and it uses 50 Mbyte this time, but it alsways means there is not enough disk space. =(

The diskspace settings allow to specify both a maximum amount of consumed space and a minimum of disk space that has to be *free* . Maybe you inadvertently increased the second setting (required free diskspace) as well?

This is under Mac OS X, right? From the top of my head, the volume that counts for the free space is the one containing /Library/Application Support/BOINC .

What does BOINC say about "Preferences limit disk usage to ..." (near the top of messages tab after a restart)?

AFAIR setting any value to

AFAIR setting any value to "0" produces the same error message. Try "0.1" instead.

My settings are: Use at

My settings are:

Use at most 10 GB disk space
Leave at least 1 GB disk space free
Use at most 50% of total disk space
Use at most 50% of page file (swap space)
Use at most 100% of memory when computer is not in use

It works well with malariacontrol, but produces the error message with einstein@home, rosetta@home and others, where the message says that a few little bit megabytes (really not much) is missing ...

You should also tell us, what your disk (partition) size is and the remaining free space on it.
The best guess is that you should set "Leave at least 0.5 GB disk space free".
You can check in messages tab, after the change is in effect. Look for
"Preferences limit disk usage to ..." (also near the top of messages tab after a restart).

The "Preferences limit disk

The "Preferences limit disk usage to" message speaks of "0.09 GB", but that is totally wrong - the disk has 172 Gbyte space free!

Einstein@home says "Not

Einstein@home says "Not enough disk space (only 21.3 MB free for BOINC). Review preferences for maximum disk space used". I have no idea why Einstein@home thinks there is no disk space free.

How big is the total drive?

How big is the total drive?
You're telling BOINC to use 50% of total disk space. If you then have a 250GB disk, you can use at maximum 125GB.

This number is independent of the partition size that BOINC resides on, it'll check the TOTAL disk space.

The disk has 170 GB space

The disk has 170 GB space free! The whole partition is 265 GB big.

OK, let me retry that one.

What is the size of the hard drive you have in the computer?
260GB? 300GB? 400GB? 500GB?

I am not talking about a partition. I am asking about the whole disk drive.
That is what is meant with the total disk space setting.
Since you have set Use at most 50% of total disk space, divide the drive in half. If (half of total disk space) < amount of disk space free (170GB) then increase that setting.
