Finally got round to doing the acid test on Linux. Set nvidia-smi running on a 5-second loop, and watched the transition at 49.500% progress: GW-opencl dropped off the process list briefly, and returned on device 1 as instructed. Job done - thanks.
Where do you find the cc_config.xml file? I've been looking for it but can't find it.
The cc_confi.xml file belongs in the BOINC Data directory . However, if you didn't write it manually yourself (or told the manager to do so by making specific settings), you don't have one. The client will get its settings from the project's web then.
