Lowering GPU Utilization factor won't allow more WU's to be done simultaneously

I use GPU-Z to measure my load. I've done well over 10 wu's on 1x and the number was a little over 6 hours crunch time. I don't remember what it was for 2x (I believe it was around 6-7 hours) but for the 3x it's about 9 hours.

I can run the 3 wu's with ease at the moment, but if your experience sees 2x better, I will switch over. I enabled test applications also.

Thanks.

There was obviously something wrong at the time you had the low GPU load so I wouldn't trust those results completed before you got the significant load increase. You reported that increase on 27 Dec 2015, 19:18:21 UTC so anything before that should be disregarded in assessing the true 1x crunch time. Those suspect results show a big variation from a low of 9ksecs to a high of 21ksecs. I think you would find that the true crunch time would be down near the low end of those results. A good way to test would be to run the machine overnight at 1x with nothing else running.

Assuming that all results since late 28 Dec have been done at 3x, that gives 9 results currently, ranging from 23ksecs to 35ksecs and averaging around 29-30ksecs.

At first glance, the variability of these results would indicate that perhaps your machine has a significant (and variable) non-BOINC load. These results have too much spread for a machine otherwise on fairly light duties. Perhaps you'd like to comment on what other things you run on that machine?

I'm not suggesting that at all. Personally, I think you may get best output from running 3x, but that very much depends on what other compute intensive tasks that machine is required to perform. You'll never really know if you don't produce a number of results for each setting.

Cheers,
Gary.

Boinc is dedicated to run

Boinc is dedicated to run 100% of all cores all the time for 16 hours a day. While boinc is crunching, the most I do is use Chrome for web browsing or watching videos. Only other programs I run are Word and Photoshop. I do occasionally game, but I shut Boinc down when doing that.

I switched over to two and will wait to see how the time plays out. I still think 1x is really ineffecient, but I think 2-3 will be the sweet spot. I did run one wu without other projects running and the time did drop for it, in which I believe is because of the freed cpu cores. I'd still want to crunch my other projects so I don't want to cut down on those.

Thanks.

Sounds like you just need more pc's so you can be more efficient! Welcome to the World of those with multiple pc's!!

Have a laptop but prefer not

Have a laptop but prefer not to use those to Boinc. :)

I do have free trials do run them on servers which I will get to soon enough.
