Some of my computers are just once a week online.

By altering my preferences I tried to obtain more units to overcome this period of time.

The 'error'-message I got was:

Quote:
4-4-2005 9:08:22|Einstein@Home|Message from server: (daily quota of 8 WU reached)

So I have a problem because that work is just enough for
2 days.

Has someone a solution?

I'm sorry, but your only real option is to subscribe to other projects so you can get other work for when E@H runs out or arrange to connect to the internet more frequently than once per week.

Cheers,
Gary.

How long does your Puter takes to crunch one WU?

For the record: My computer

For the record:
My computer is a XP3000+ @2222MHz, it does approx. 4 WU's on 1 day. So my reserve is just 2 days once I have connected to I-net...

Which is exactly why I gave the advice I did. I viewed your computer and saw the time of 21,000 seconds and knew that unless you supported more than one project or could arrange to connect more frequently, there was no way to keep your box going. The E@H policy of 8 per day is to prevent faulty computers from trashing large numbers of results by erroring out quickly and downloading a bunch more and repeating the sequence.

Cheers,
Gary.

Thanx for your explanation,

Thanx for your explanation, Gary.
I posted the additional info on request of Captain Avatar.

I'm working on a solution to connect more often to I-net if there
isn't a 'real' solution...

Connecting once a week just does not work with WU that expire after exactly 7 days. Random errors in your timing will mean that about half the time the WU till have timed out before you return them. This is a separate issue from the on of how many WU you get.

But I would endorse the advice to join another project. climateprediction is a good one as (whether we personally beleive in glodal warming or not) it is a potentially serious situation and anything that helps us get to a better set of predictions has got to be good. In terms of distributed computing it is an ideal backup as they give you massive WUs with a year (I think) to crunch them.

You might want to set up your prefs so that E@H gets 90% of cpu time and cpdn just 10%. Then when E@H WU are available you will be crunching them for most of the time, but whenever the E@H work held locally does run out you will be doing useful work for someone else, as the client will give the minor project 100% if the major project has run out of work.

Ive started a new thread on the wish-list board, here, about changes I'd personally like the project to make that would help people with a once a week connection pattern. However there may well have been a policy decision to encourage faster turnround that that, in order to keep the load on the scheduling database as short-lived as possible.
