Back in the day when we were hunter/gatherers, energy was rarely wasted fighting over 'stupid stuff', since that's inherently self-defeating and typically leads to extinction.

A trouble with fighting over stupid stuff, is that one only has to do it better than the neighbours ( thus trashing their women, households and nurtured children ) and one can flourish, also see Dr Strangelove ......
Of course the women wouldn't be staying away from here, because there's any stupid male stuff. I mean what could we possibly have, or invent, to argue about? :-) :-)
Cheers, Mike.
I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

LOL...
Careful.... You could be getting PI there!
That could be construed as saying that women aren't capable of being just as stupid as men. :-D
On further reflection, I guess the reason is not that women don't like to fight, they just have their own agenda about the 'stupid stuff' they are going to fight over! ;-)

True, but women are capable of being smarter, and you don't get to hear about it! We'd covered this before at E@H and Prof Bruce brought up Grace Hopper who, amongst other achievements :
- developed/invented/sponsored the world's first compiler, for COBOL, and tellingly joked : 'It really came about because I couldn't balance my checkbook.'
- was a Navy Admiral, and has a ship ( or a 'boat', I forget which ) named after her. Now why are most warships given blokey names but personified as female?
- just did it, and long before the shoe company line. And well before feminism, political correctness etc had such labels.
- received the first computer sciences Man Of The Year award from the Data Processing Management Association in 1969! :-)
Cheers, Mike.
( edit ) NB. Hopper's parents believed that their daughters should have the same educational opportunities as their son. Her father encouraged her not to follow the traditional roles of women.
( edit ) And if I say 'dictator', 'war criminal', 'war hero', 'serial killer' or even 'corporate fraudster' are the images these invoke of women?

As far as achievement is concerned there is no difference between and men and women it is all has to with there upbringing and male bigotry. I learnt from experience working for a number female presidents in the defense industry.( I am better for it)... They were just as cut throat as their male counter parts.
There are some who can live without wild things and some who cannot. - Aldo Leopold
Let us not forget Ada Augusta Byron, Countess Lovelace, who translated from French into English the "Notations sur la machine analytique de M.Charles Babbage" of Luigi Federico Menabrea, adding, at Babbage's suggestion, her own Notes in which she foresaw a usage of the Analytical Engine well beyond numerical computations, for instance in the field of music. The ADA language (A Defense Algorithm) recalls her name. She was Lord Byron's daughter.

Bah! Clearly further discussion is needed to address our mine shaft gap! Let's argue about that! ;)

I would think that the difference is that women see themselves and attach themselves differently. It is easier for men to exchange information, whereas women tend to want more personal attachments.
Boinc mesage boards lend themselves toward male attachment styles. No science thing about it, really.
Fewer women post but they do it more frequently, as in a kind of conversation with fellow posters. This is more clearly seen on the SETI message boards.
