Fun with Windows Updates.

Fun with Windows Updates.

After first trying to install that security update against that one worm that's infecting millions of computers, I got the message that this update couldn't be done because the language in the update differed from the language of my Windows. I had downloaded it through the Dutch Windows Updates site, so you'd think they'd have that under control... not.

Allright then, let's do those 55 updates that the normal Windows Updates has been waiting to install on my system then. For the past 30 minutes it's been trying to install a language pack for .NET 3.0 ... I got bored of waiting for it, so I canceled the operation. Have been waiting 20 minutes now for the thing to cancel.

I don't dare to reboot either as you'll see that it'll have broken my Windows then. ;-)

Since the issue is with a Windows Update file, there shouldn´t be any danger by restarting the PC. There´s no need to panic because there are two possibilities: you can update it or you cannot. It seems you cannot, so there´s no problem with your Operation System. I would try again by visiting the home page of Windows, the one in the U.S. and follow instructions for other countries/languages.

Assuming Jord has no problem

Assuming Jord has no problem on a reboot, then Dirk's comment will be the way to go. If he has problems, then he will need to restart in Safe Mode, then do a roll back.

That would be difficult as I have those irritating system restore points turned off. :-)

Nah, didn't need to reboot either. After waiting an hour and a half, to be on the safe side, I exited iexplorer.exe in task manager. Off it went, no trouble. yet.

It amused me to watch Bush sent packing and Cheney wheeled off into the distance. Oh happy day!
