I have downloaded BOINC (Version 5.2.13) on a computer running Windows98SE. After typing in the URL in the required field I am getting the following message:

Project not found.
The URL you supplied is not that of a BOINC based project.
Please check the URL & try again

I am very much sure that the typed URL is correct.
I also found the following message on the message board:

Fetching config info from http:// einstein.phys.uwm.edu/get_project_config.php
Couldn't resolve hostname[einstein.phys.uwm.edu]
Couldn't resolve hostname[www.yahoo.com]

I have BOINC running perfectly on my home computer with an ADSL broadband. I am facing this problem while trying to connect from my workplace where all computers are connected by LAN & have an always on internet connection (IP 192.168.10.253). Can anybody offer any suggestions?

Unable to connect to any project

A firewall(or router,gateway) issue for sure.
BTW,the IP address is an internal LAN address.

Perhaps, you need to set up a Proxy. Check your Internet Options control panel under the "Connections" tab and mimic any proxy settings you find there in BOINC.

Your problem is that the

Your problem is that the Bonic Manager(boincmgr.exe) and Boinc client(boinc.exe) aren't allowed to communicate with the internet.
Someone(I guess it's the administrator) who has access to the firewall(or proxy,router,etc...) has to allow these two programs to communicate with internet.

Contrary to what many believe, Boinc Manager doesn't communicate with the internet.

* The BOINC Manager (BoincMgr.exe) needs to be able to open outbound connections to either port 1043 or 31416. (local network)

* The BOINC Screensaver (Boinc.scr) needs to be able to open outbound connections to either 1043 or 31416. (local network)

* The BOINC Daemon (Boinc.exe) needs to open an inbound connection to either port 1043 or 31416 (local network), and an outbound connection to port 80 for downloads and uploads of Work Units, Results, and Science Applications. (internet)

In future versions of BOINC, port 31416 is the only port used. Port 1043 will be no longer used.

It's the other way around.

hawkeye@maggie:~> cat /etc/services | grep boinc
boinc-client 1043/tcp # BOINC Client Control
boinc-client 1043/udp # BOINC Client Control

Wow, and that comes after they registered 1043 with IANA.

Another example of M$ not complying with common guidelines :(

Yes, but don't you know? MS are above everyone else... they don't need rules. I feel another patch coming on. ;)

Well, Billy G. has it on best authority, GWBush, that rules are for the riff-raff, they don't apply to emperors. So, when is the government patch going to be released?
