Keith. The core client shouldn't make a difference. That error was benign as far as I remember. I got it consistently and didn't have any bad returned results.

But an upgrade to 5.9.12 will get rid of the state file errors.

Kathy it has been a while since I posted. I wanted to see if the upgrades helped.

Here are my latest results.

You know - the funny thing is that, since the initial rash of errors, the app has been running perfectly, and I've since added it to a 2K box and a Linux box, both with AMD CPUs (which are supposed to be more susceptible).

I hope somebody can help you figure this out.

Seti seems to be running not to bad. So I am not sure how the two interact with my computer. Just kind of strange;

Please don't get me started on SETI! ;^)

Seriously, they've gone through some changes in how they distribute work, and they've had some hardware problems too, so there's been some challenges. Recently, it has frequently taken literally DAYS for me to download a new set of WUs, and there has been a LOT of work tied up as "pending" (1000+ credits for a while there).

I also checked one of my pending WU's, and the other participant in the quorum for that WU had about 20 WUs, half of which were still being processed (or, one hopes they are), while the other half had ALL failed due to client errors. This is less than encouraging since they only send out two copies of the WU initially.

Again, I'm not being critical here. Everyone at SETI lot smarter than I am, and they're working on straightening this out when they can find the time. I'm not going to be the kind of entitlement mentality, whiny SETI user I see all to often.

For instance, when the project that I used to use as a backup on my slowest machine started sending out impossibly large (for that machine)WUs, I just added a new project as a backup. That particular computer usually overachieves, because it has four processors with fair-sized caches, and I usually run the "chicken" optimized SETI app on it. Just today, I realized that I had forgotten to reinstall the optimized app after I restored it from a crash, though. Sigh.

You're having a whole lot of different errors.

resultID86680542 shows:

- exit code 1073807364 (0x40010004)

From the BOINC Wiki:
Exit Code -1073807364 (0x40010004)

This is usually due to a graphics crash. This can happen because something else is using the graphics, or alternatively you're displaying the graphics and kill the graphics window via Task manager or answering 'Yes' to Microsoft's 'this program is not responding, kill it?' question.

-------------------
resultID 88626175

The system cannot open the file. (0x4) - exit code 4 (0x4)

Reading the log, you seem to be missing a couple of needed files here.

-------------------
resultID 86618994

- exit code -1073741502 (0xc0000142)

Explanation from this thread:

Exit code -1073741502 (0xC0000142): It means that a DLL failed to load properly. This error looks like it's happening more frequently on Windows Vista, but we also get it from machines running Windows XP. The Einstein developers would greatly appreciate any idea which DLL this might be - so far they haven't got a clue.

--------------------

So in all, between graphics errors, file missing errors and a missing DLL, there's not a lot of help that can be given at this time. The developers are busy with at least 2 of the errors, in the mean time... Well, in my opinion, do not run BOINC/Einstein in Vista.
