The average CPU time per task on my 2.0 GHz G5 has gone down from 19.45 hours to 12.94 hours with the new Altivec app. (Timings taken from my "All tasks for…" page today.) A very welcome improvement.
Apart from the more useful return time for the project and the faster acquisition of points for me, it's good to feel that the machine's working at its best and that someone actually cares enough about the platform and processor to bring this about. Thank you! :-)
My Tiger/G5 is showing about 30% improvement, and a Panther/G4 of mine that was getting errors on most of its tasks (usually right at the end!) just got a result validated. Thanks, Bernd!
Hi Bernd,
Altivec rocks! I got a average 1/1,49, ~50% improvement with the new application! (2Power Mac G5 Quad (1.1), 2,5 GHz). Are these workunits of the same size like the SSE Intel Apps?

All S5GC1HF units have the same size, regardless of crunching platform they are assigned to.
The improvement regarding app
)
The improvement regarding app startup / reading isn't overwhelming for my laptop (about 20% :-).
For the 6 tasks I could still check (2 for v3.04, 4 for v3.06), the mean value of the reading times went from 6:30 min down to 5:15 min.

Gundolf

Quite an impressive speed-up.
My G5 Mac is set with a 10-day cache, so it'll be several more days before it gets to the AltiVec workunits that it's downloaded.
