RE: I agree that at times

I agree that at times animal testing can be, or can seem to be, cruel. The next time you are ill, be sure to match your actions to your convictions by telling the doctors that you do not wish to take advantage of any modern drugs developed in the last 35 years (which required animal testing in order to be approved) which you may require for cancer, HIV, diabetes (insulin) or virtually any other ailmment. Antibiotics that have saved countless millions of lives should be on your list of meds you object to. Open heart surgery, organ transplant, prosthetic replacement or augmentation of limbs and dialysis are other proceedures you should not take advantage of either, as they are only possible because of animal testing.

If you truly object to animal testing you should deny yourself any of the benefits of such testing or your convictions are hollow. In addition, you had better become a vegan (not just vegetarian) since many more millions of food animals are killed every year than lab animals and the cows, chickens, etc., are born, live and die in much more stressful and inhumane manners.

I and many family members and friends are alive today as a result of treatments and medications made possible by animal testing. I suspect the same is true for you and yours.

The next time someone close to you is ill, I dare you to tell them to their face that you object to the treatment that will soon be helping them because of the manner in which it was developed. I'll wager everything I own that your objection to animal testing will seem silly at that moment and that you'll be darned glad that animal testing has provided a means to save that person's life or heal them.

A conviction of convenience is absolutely no conviction at all.

Jim

And we can all see how well modern medicine works, medicine with more side effects than what it's supposed to help causing you to need to take 1 or 2 more medicines to balance out the main one. Not to mention that there are differences between rats and humans thereby making any lab testing not as valid as it should be.

Cynicism aside, which of the medical projects would be best to crunch for if your main reason for crunching one is to help cut down on the need for animal testing?

SIMAP's database is currently more public than the others. So its work is making it to the community that needs it fastest right now.

Rosetta is doing a lot as well, but I don't think the database is public or used by anybody as of yet.

Personally, I crunch for SIMAP, Rossetta, and Predictor, as they all are working on different sections to elminate different sicknesses.

i take it that you people

i take it that you people that support animal testing think that it somehow helps humans,it doesn't.Anmials and humans have different genetic make ups so animals are not accurate models for drugs.supporters of animal testing say that it saves human lives,it doesn't.it kills humans and makes them ill, thousands of people die every year because of adverse drug reactions, caused by drugs the are deemed safe because they've been tested on animals.

ANIMAL TESTING IS A REDUNDENT SCIENCE AND IT KILLS BOTH ANIMALS AND HUMANS FOR NO REASON!!!

You can take the animal out

You can take the animal out of the ecosystem, but you can't take the ecosystem out of the animal. I've personally tested far too much cow, chicken, and pig, to be critical of any scientist. But even if I ate only veggies (and where's respect for the sanctity of living things in that?!), I would still try to see the bigger picture: animal testing is a natural (although advanced) phase of evolution, motivated by both selections and survival. Bottom line: if you remove the animal from the ecosystem, it dies, and if you leave the animal alone, it gets eaten at the first sign of weakness. Look in the mirror and tell me you're as evolved as it gets. Psshaw... :)
