I do not know and can not find if the detach_when_done command will suspend getting tasks. I would THINK it would but if you see it downloading more work use this:
That is a screenshot I got off Google Images. The program lets you do anything you can do in the BoincManager. Add projects, pause, resume, suspend tasks or read messages. Can be very handy.
Works great on Raspian! sudo apt-get install boinctui
You also can use it to connect to other hosts running Boinc.

Suspend would halt the execution of tasks, and with "detch_when_done", it would never detach, I guess.
Anyway, glad to see the team growing. If we were a country, we would be in the TOP 100 for Einstein@Home. Yes, the (currently ) ca 6600 credits/day is more than that of, say, Egypt, according to BoincStats. Hmmm... hard to believe ... kind of depressing if true.
I use BOINCtasks on my laptop to monitor the farm including Windows and Linux hosts. You can use it to add/remove projects and all the other things. It's a Windows app but I believe it will work under wine (on a x86 or x64 Linux). You can see all the machines in one window rather than dealing with them one at a time.
To swap over I setup a new free email account and when the Pies finished what they were doing detached from E@H and then reattached with new email.

Command line:
boinccmd --create_account einstein.phys.uwm.edu email password name
Replace email password and name with your info.
If it complains about permissons add sudo to the begining of the line or type:
sudo !!
If you want to finish the current work units you can use:
boinccmd --project einstein.phys.uwm.edu detach_when_done

Did you set a password for boinc in gui_rpc_auth.cfg? Not E@H but in/for boinc? If so you need to use it.

I do not use a GUI or desktop on most of my crunchers. I ssh in and do my deeds. One app I find helpful sometimes is boinctui https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/boinctui.

I think what you want is rather
boinccmd --passwd password --project einstein.phys.uwm.edu nomorework

My bad. Stupid mistake. Should not try and do more than one thing at a time. Sorry. :-(
