THanx Akos for trying to do the right thing for the project.
It is very disappointing that efficiency has to take a back seat.
It is disappointing that the project finds fault with valid results, that validated against official app results.
But since it is their project we must listen to their request to stop using them.
I never got to the point of needing the app_info.xml file that I made so I will just need to delete the patched app.
And I will remove the .old extension from the official app so that I can once again plod along using more time/electricity than is needed.
And i hope everyone listens to the wishes of the project staff so that we do not ruin our chances of being able to do this again in a more controlled way in the future.
One result uses S5T0712 one of my boxes - the other is from one Bruce Allen's machines. The validator deems both results "valid" ... for what it is worth.
I got an easy answer for all this
[b]MAKE AKOSF AN HONORARY OFFICIAL MEMBER OF THE PROJECT AND MAKE HIS WORK OFFICIAL :) you've already put his work into the 'official app'
I don't think it's like finding your marriage is invalid because the priest wasn't ordained, so getting him ordained retrospectively. It's about following rigorous methodology, not the lack of blessedness of a particular individual - which in this case we know isn't true :-)

:) Nice analogy. Your right of course unfortunatly.
My sympathys for the project runners too. Must be annoying for them also. Can see they wanted to try and make it work when they were trying to impliment the 4.10 idea. Bit surprised they've remaind so silent throught it all though.
I think most people of reasonable intelligence realized from the start that we were merely helping you to 'test' new optimizations, and that they could be pulled at any time.
Akos explicitly stated, that the results had to be watched very carefuly an that their outcome should be reported to him. That is as good as painting "EXPERIMENT" on it, in signal-red. Because of that, I only diverted one single midrange-computer to the "akos-line" of einstein-clients.

P.S. Thanks akos, I really appreciate the work, you invested.
Well, I guess even a gifted guy like you learned some things while doing this, so at least that's some kind of reward for your "investment". ;-)
Keep goin'!

Absolutely right. However, some people did warn that this would not be fully taken on board by some people, and in retrospect perhaps Akos released too many patches too quickly, playing into the hands of the 'boy-racer' crunchers.
All histrionics aside, the real question that should be asked is: If the S5 app is carved in stone for the entire science run, or if Akos can continue to work on it in an official manor of some sort? Either as an internal test or an official einstien beta with an official rollout once it's precision and accuracy have been demonstrated to be as good as or better than the current official applications.
So is someone going to remove that 'sticky' thread about the patches and new .dat files? seems bad idea to have them up with maybe some still working download links. Right now all its got is Akosf asking people not to use.
[EDIT] just realised probly best to leave it up so everyone can read that 'DONT USE' so ignore me.
I think most people of reasonable intelligence realized from the start that we were merely helping you to 'test' new optimizations, and that they could be pulled at any time. We also know that you will likely continue your work on the optimizations, but possibly in a more structured environment. I myself had to cringe a few times when I saw how many results were being trashed by people's carelessness. The optimized applications should be considered 'bonuses' by us, not demanded from the project.
At any rate, keep up the good work. I hope the project team didn't smack your peepee too hard over this.
