OK, may I ask, how to set the CPU manually?
I tried this on p3 machine, but it's slower than 4.81...
(I don't use GUI, so...)
It is described on the 'Beta Test Page' itself.
"This App has the possibility to manually override the automatic CPU detection. If you see the App getting a "signal 4" (illegal instruction), please report the problem in the forum thread and create a file named "CPU_TYPE_0" in your BOINC directory. This will force the App to use the generic code instead of the SSE one."
I put up a new App (0.15), available from our usual Beta Test Page.
It allows to manually override the CPU detection and force it to use generic code (problems have been reported witch certain PIII Coppermine CPUs).
It also features later BOINC code, incorporating the fix to the signal handling (suspend/resume etc) we devleoped for MacOS, so it might hep with problems in that area, too.
Happy testing!

I am testing this version 0.15 using a Pentium III Coppermine CPU. It works
successfully but there are no graphics (nor with the previous versions)!
dlopen() failed: ../../projects/einstein.phys.uwm.edu/einstein_0.15_i686-pc-linux-gnu.so: undefined symbol: _Z13block_sigalrmv
No graphics.
graphics_lib_handle NULL: running without graphics
Detected CPU type 1

4.81 version runs fine on my Pentium II Deschutes at 400 MHz with a good speed increase relative to the previuos version, Graphics works too, but of course the CPU is outdated. Plan to switch to an Athlon.

Thank you for the report. It seems that the latest BOINC code requires a slightly newer pthread library (and kernel) than the previous one. What kernel version are you running?
Hi,
I'm testing 0.15 (running OK) but I've no graphics
In boinc manager, the "show graphics" button stays desesperatly grey.
CC4.43, P4 2Ghz, 256mb, Mandriva (kernel: 2.6.11-6mdk), ATI Radeon 9000 (no ATI driver because it freezes my machine, just vesa driver)
Edit: I've found that in the slot dir:
dlopen() failed: ../../projects/einstein.phys.uwm.edu/einstein_0.15_i686-pc-linux-gnu.so: undefined symbol: _Z13block_sigalrmv
No graphics.

I found the problem. It's rather in the build process than in the kernel version, most likely nobody is able to see the graphics on Linux right now. A fix is on the way and we should have a new App soon.
I compiled the latest boinc-client v.4.72 on SuSE-9.3 64bit. Crunching was working well and the benchmark showed a much better result, but Server communication was denied:
Message from server: platform 'x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu' not found
So I installed the new test-version 0.15. After the first two WUs I can tell there seems to be no significant time difference for calculating compared to v.4.81, but in combination with boinc 4.72 I get satisfying 'claimed credits'. :)
There haven't been any recent posts in this thread so everyone must be doing OK with v .15? I've been using v .15 since 6 October with no problems. I've returned 13 WUs with no errors.
As noted in some earlier posts I also don't see any change in the CPU time for the WU compared to v4.81.
I just thought that I would post my "non-problem" :-)
