Mersenne primes

It seems that the GIMPS program (which is not listed among the BOINC projects) has found two big Mersenne Primes, numbers 46 and 47, and is applying for a 100k $ prize from the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Dr.David Anderson has written an open letter to the EFF, which can be found on the BOINC home page, suggesting the EFF to widen the scope of the prize also to biomedical and astrophysics projects, such as Einstein@home. I cannot but agree with Dr.Anderson.
