I have installed App. 4.34 on two PowerBook G4 1GHz using BOINC 5.10.7 and, respectively, OSX 10.4.10 and OSX 10.3.9. No problem when following the updated installation instructions. Each computer has now completed a "long" WU (credit about 400) using 4.34 only and received credit for the result. Crunching takes significantly less "CPU time" with 4.34 compared to the previous beta or the previous "official".
By using "Activity Monitor", I noticed that "BoincManager" uses about 6% of CPU time and this time becomes available for "einstein" when "BoincManager is "Hidden". I compared "CPU time used for einstein" with the corresponding "clock time" over long nights with the computer running only "einstein" and "BoincManager", and with the screen automatically blanked during most of the night. With "BoincManager" hidden, 97.8% of clock time is devoted to einstein, whereas with "BoincManager" NOT hidden, only 90.3% of clock time is devoted to einstein. I have checked that hiding "BoincManager" does not prevent normal succession of tasks (I crunch only for E@H) and normal communication over the Internet.
Although I am crunching for E@H since 2005, I was not aware of this side effect of "BoincManager". Perhaps I should have read the message boards more often. Presumably the effect is smaller, percentage wise, on faster machines, but it is worth noting by eager credit collectors and anyone interested in hearing about actual gravity wave observation as soon as possible.

You may also notice that in Advanced mode BOINC Manager’s CPU usage varies considerably according to the panel displayed: it’s minimal when showing the statistical graphs, but can be fairly high in a view like the Tasks pane that includes ‘live’ data: running or deferral times, percentages complete &c.
(Just got back from vacation: will replace v4.29 with v4.34 on my G5.)

The data in my post of August 6 were for BOINC Manager showing the "tasks" pane. JJ.
The MacOS PPC S5R2 App 4.34 is now the official app and will be distributed automatically to crunchers. Thanks to all who provided feedback in the beta test!
WARNING: Probably switching back to the official App by simply removing the app_info.xml doesn't work anymore since we enabled verify_files_on_app_start. Sorry, we didn't think about this side effect for Beta tests. I'll see if there's any non-destructive way of switching back to the official App path from the Beta.
For now I recommend to NOT remove the app_info.xml while you have tasks in progress with more than, say, 5% done.
