Item 3 of the Mac OS X install notes says:

3. With latest BOINC Core Clients featuring the "sandbox" (version 5.8 and up) change the owner and group of the files from the package to "BOINC"
The name/group I see in Boinc 5.10.x is Owner=boinc_master, with Group=boinc_project.
If you do forget to change the ownership, Boinc will give an error when you try to start it. Don't panic, just re-install Boinc again, and it corrects the ownership and permissions. Note the re-install does not effect current setups or files in progress (including any app_info.xml files, they are all left intact).
