It seems a bit unfair

A FGRP GPU task contains

A FGRP GPU task contains actually 5 x the work compared to a FGRP CPU task. Hence the credit 5 x 693 = 3465. The GPU application just is highly optimized and the task type suits very well for GPU (parallel calculations can be used).

yeah 5x the work of the same kind of CPU task

but is FGRP-GPU doing 3X the work of a GW-GPU task? probably not.

...and FGRP5 CPU doing 3x the work of GW-CPU task?

Credit per day is also about 3x higher for FGRP CPU compared to GW CPU.

no that's not what Scrooge was referring to. there is no FGRP5 project for GPUs.

he was saying that like FGRPB1G vs GW-GPU, the FGRP5 (cpu) vs GW (cpu) also receives about 3x credit in terms of PPD. FGRP5 pays less, but runs MUCH faster than GW-CPU. leading to more credit per day overall.

Correction - Again!

I stand corrected by my colleague Ian.  Sorry for any confusion!

I was apparently reading, or skimming, over the post by Scrooge and misread FGRP5 as FGRPB1G.

Sorry I typed my argument

Sorry I typed my argument similar to Ian's argument. This mix-up had to happen that way. But Ian put it right.

Thanks for pointing this out. Both of these CPU tasks pay 1,000 points. However the GW search take ~17 hours to execute for me and a FGRP5 takes ~45 minutes on a Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor.

The GW searches are also quite memory heavy. Sometimes allocating ~3gb of system ram. On the 16gb system which I have. You can run into a situation where a task will hold off on executing until there is enough available RAM.

3gb * 6 tasks is 18gb of ram which out strips the 16gb that I have. If I wanted to upgrade to a 12 or 16 core processor. I'd also have to consider a 32/48/64gb RAM configuration to be able to support the mem requirements.

It terms of PPD its not going to be an earth shattering increase compared to the GPU points. But if I am aiming to tune this as much as possible. Its worth considering which tasks to run.
