I finally got my 3950X CPU, but I would like some advice

Your voltages are OK as well

Your voltages are OK as well as your temps. If it works, then use it.

Your mouse problem is not caused by BOINC since you removed it from running.  So look elsewhere in Windows. Open the Task Manager and look for any process that is using lots of cpu.  Lots of Windows background processes run.  Run a virus scan.  An infected computer will use a lot of cpu in hidden processes that could be stealing cycles away from simple servicing of the mouse pointer. Look in Device Manager on the mouse category and see if it has any yellow warnings or error messages.  Is it using the native MS mouse driver or some manufacturer driver.  Update the driver.

Response:

Thanks!  Your approval means a lot to me.  I'll keep my voltages and temps the way they are.

My mouse problems are now solved.  I did as you suggest, everything!  Even a bit more.  Microsoft has an update that addressed the issue I had with USB controlled mice and said to relocate the Unifying Receiver of my Logitech Mouse to a different USB port.  I did and it seems to be working now just fine.  Go Figure!!

I also noticed that I had yellow warnings for three PCI devices (not PCIe devices) to which I had none.  So I deleted the devices in Device Manager and noticed no difference.  I rebooted again and they came back, so I'm just going to leave them alone.

One more thing.  With Windows 10 is there way that I can run 2 projects on each GPU?  Or is there a way I can get my PC to use more RAM, such as yours (~2 GB)?  Mine is using ~3.8% CPU and ~300 MB running Einstein GW tasks.  I feel it is a waste of my GPUs.

Yes, if you set two projects to use 0.5 of a gpu and the timing of the start of tasks allows two projects to occupy half of the card resources.  But project tasks normally have very different runtimes, so eventually the card will end up running two of the same projects tasks because they both have similar runtimes.  If you can find two projects with almost identical runtimes, then you might see that more often.  I used to run Seti and Milkyway tasks together when both were running an OpenCL science app.  The runtimes were very close and neither project used very much gpu memory so both could easily fit.

Your tasks will use as much RAM as they need.  That is simply based on what each science app and task requires.  You can't force the PC to use more RAM.  You can only limit how much RAM that BOINC has access to in the configuration files and preferences.

How much gpu memory a task uses is simply based on the task parameters.  Tasks are not all the same.  Some take very little and some take a lot.  Again, you have no control over that, it is solely based on the application and the task parameters which the scientists control.

Right now I am doing some GW gpu tasks that consume around 1.1GB on each card.  But on another machine the GW tasks are only consuming around 600MB.  Different task species is all.

And also, I don't know where you are getting your data from but unless you change the Windows Task Manager view, it does not show compute usage, only graphics.

And the amount of cpu usage reported in Task Manager simply shows how many cores divided out of 32 for the 3950X.  So all my tasks show 3% usage or 100% / 32 =3.2%  Can't use more than that unless some process needs more than a single core.  Most tasks only need one core.  Ian, Zalster and I have seen the GW gpu tasks use up to 110% of a core in BoincTasks.  So they need a fraction more than the typical single core.

And other tasks need just a fraction of a core.  It all depends on what the tasks requires.  Again, you have no control over that.

We may be talking about

We may be talking about different things, but that first paragraph seems overcomplicated. You can set any project to 0.5 and it will run two instances simultaneously irrespective of how other projects are set up.

I have a grav wave search taking 3.7GB right now. So you probably need 4GB of VRAM per task. I have only 4GB, so I can only run one at a time.

On the same box, Milkyway can run two at once. Milkway runs two, then Einstein runs one, no problem.

You'll need an app_config.xml file in the Einstein project directory that correctly names and configures each Einstein app. It's finicky.

P.S. for what it's worth I'm

P.S. for what it's worth I'm running an Asus B350 board. If it had a belt, it would have about about 13k hours under its belt. It's fine, apart from the coil whine. No fan problems with HWiNFO. But thanks for the intel, that sounds like a nasty problem.

Okay, I musty be getting

Okay, I musty be getting old.  My memory is drawing a blank right now.  I've tweaked my preferences in each project, and so far I'm very happy with what I've done so far.  But..... I haven't done anything with my cc_config.xml file or app_config.xml file since SETI@Home has retired.

Do I make mods in either file?  Do I make mods in Einstein@Home?  Do I place the app_config.xml file in the data folder?  And worse yet, where do I make the modifications in either file?  As I said, I'm drawing a blank... or more correctly, a BIG blank!!

I'm sorry Keith.  I realize we chatted about this eons ago, and many times, but I'm at a loss.  It must be my meds...

I bauw to your supremacy.

You shouldn't have to

You shouldn't have to anything with your cc_config.xml file if it was satisfactory for you before.  It deals with how the client works with projects.  Einstein works the same as Seti basically. cc_config.xml goes in your /boinc folder.

Your app_config.xml file is specific to each project and goes into your project folder.  It controls how your science applications work within each project. It goes into your /BOINC/projects/einstein.phys.uwm.edu folder.

You can do things like set cpu and gpu usage per application or implementing task control with max concurrent statements for example.  You can always consult the BOINC documentation for permitted controls and examples of different configurations.

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration#Application_configuration

It can be complex or as simple as you want.  You don't even have to use one if you are happy with how the scheduler interacts with your client within your preferences.

I need to implement cpu task control with max concurrent statements or my memory gets quickly consumed starving other projects and gpus. This is mine for example.

<app_config>
<app>
    <name>einstein_O2MD1</name>
    <max_concurrent>4</max_concurrent>
</app>

<app>
    <name>einstein_O2MDF</name>
    <max_concurrent>3</max_concurrent>
</app>

<app>
    <name>hsgamma_FGRPB1G</name>
    <max_concurrent>3</max_concurrent>
</app>

<app>
    <name>hsgamma_FGRP5</name>
    <max_concurrent>4</max_concurrent>
</app>

</app_config>

Thank you Keith.  I think I

Thank you Keith.  I think I get it now.  I'll try it out, give a day or so and get back here and let everybody know.

One more thing.  How do you get your profile signature to display in Einstein@Home?  I've tried several different ways, but it doesn't seem to work.  One person mentioned that Einstein is different, it uses a new window for a URL and whether I placed *.img or *.png at the end, it hasn't worked for me.  I'm waiting for a moderator's approval for the latest attempt to make it happen.

P.S. My last day (today?) in

P.S. My last day (today?) in BOINC Stats shows over one million credits for the day under project list.  That is why I'm very happy with my preferences so far.

Don't use any of the editors

Don't use any of the editors tools.  They are all broken with respect to signatures.

Just use standard BBCodes like you would use in a normal project.
