Then you get this project is worth more than that project, and arguments about why one project gives more money than another.
Some universities may have a problem with their research projects generating income for others and this could, if badly handled in the press, have a negative impact.
Sadly the word "credit" is ingrained in boinc, with all the associated (money like) thinking that comes with that word.
I have another opinion on the matter. If you see how much mining took off, this could be a great way to incentive using GPUs for research rather than just heat and more people would be more willing to help out if they didn't have to pay the power bill because of this cryptocurrency.

Okay then let's stop beating around the bush...you have 4 very good gpu's how much do you make from Gridcoin every month?
This month I made 2500 gridcoin which at the current price of 4.3 cents works out to about $107 made. Just about what my GPUs consume in power, so free crunching. So that would be stupid if I sold my gridcoin at the normal value. I would wait until there is a spike, for instance I sold 30k gridcoin when it was at 13.5 cents each. You can do the math yourself :) How do you think I got my 1080ti's?
As for anyone wanting to get into it, I can guide you along as this is actually a great way to make this activity sustainable and incentivize crunching in general for the benefit of science as a whole.

I sent this to the people associated with the recent 2017 BOINC workshop. The reply I received is that it would be brought up for discussion although I think nothing will come of it.

I think you are opening a hornets next, but you can do what you like of course.
I mean if you separate out a Team because they have too many members do you then go the next step and separate out Individuals who have more than X number of cpu cores or gpu's? Do you separate out those people running 2 or more workunits per graphics card or do we leave everyone lumped all into one group like they are now? I have 16 pc's crunching Boinc right now and half of them half gpu's, in those 16 pc's are over 50 cpu cores, there is no way MOST people can 'compete' with me and my individual stats. Am I to be separated out too because some people don't have the resources I do? Some people have 50 or more pc's, are they to be separated out too?
I am JUST expanding the thought process, I do NOT expect an answer as it would keep this going for much longer than it needs too here, and here is not the right place to have this as WE can't do anything about it one way or the other.
