It looks like GEO600 possibly has discovered/ measured some fundamental property of space time. Though intended to discover large-scale distant gravity waves, the current discovery is on the microscopic scale.

Not withstanding the caveats mentioned on the data and it's interpretation - now that I know that I am a blurry hologram in a grainy universe, well that explains a lot! :-)
I think it means that my personal data is being stored at the edge of the universe. Now if only that could apply to the Australian Tax Office? Certainly it sounds better than "Our World May Be a Giant Hamster"! :-)
Anyway this sort of unexpected soil is a terrific part of this cutting/bleeding edge gravitational research. It's great to play a part, however indirect/peripheral/small.

Apart from the significance of the holographic aspect it's good to know the beam splitters in the LIGO interferometers are a bit more firmly rooted in the quest to detect gravitational waves.
As for the holographic aspect, wow! So we're all actually confined to a 2D+1 surface? Nonlocal, entangled? Flat? Hmmm....

Most excellent flix. One line that comes to mind straightaway is, “We're not here because we're free. We're here because we're not free.� But after some more checking, I see it's not quite confinement to a 2D+1 surface, rather it comes from a version of string theory: Holographic Geometry and Noise in Matrix Theory.
If it pans out, it's a wonderful surprise and incredibly fascinating being able to measure features at the Planck scale while trying to detect gravitational waves! Although the planned upgrades for both designs (to GEO600 and the LIGOs) will help to answer the holographic question with certainty, the results achieved so far with both types of interferometer look pretty encouraging for such an interpretation. I think the impressive part is arriving at the conclusion with phenomenology based on wave mechanics and only a single parameter (the compactified tenth nonlocal dimension of fundamental size/time, called the “M� dimension).
If “free� is a conscious state of mind, I suppose “M� being nonlocal is as free as free gets :)
