RE: These messages must be

These messages must be unrelated. The task that writes "Demodulation failed (error: 1006)" returns with error/status 1006, not with "zero status", as the client message said. This must refer to a different task.

Bernd,
I do seem to be having problems connecting messages to reported tasks.

My latest task seems to have given me the zero status but no output file message but uploaded and validated OK.

As far as I can tell there is no way to get temperature data on an NVS 3100M.

This system also runs Win 7, so I've set up the project on that OS and will let it complete the tasks it got, should take at least a day, even though preferences ask for .25 days worth of work.

When this is done, I'll go back to Linux and see if I can provide more information.

no problem with a NVS3100m over here - try GPU-Z..

Interesting. that is the program I tried, downloaded it a couple of hours ago so I'm pretty sure it's the latest version.

This is what I see, am I missing something?

no idea - i got a DELL latitude E6510 (identical chip-id for the GPU) and it works like charm.

to be precise: win XP-32 and NVIDIA driver version 26658.

but i'm still using GPZ-Z 0.5.1..

maybe lenovo fouled up somewhere???

Oh say it isn't so.

I'm wondering if I might have a hardware problem.

It's pretty much black magic to me right now. Most things work fine.
I even get some of the Binary Plusars Search tasks to complete and validate

Somehow my mystic incantations are off. Perhaps I don't have the proper accent when I'm swearing at the damn thing.

My desktops with GT240's or GT220 are running fine (and they tell me temperature 55C on this desktop).

I've been running in Windows all day on that machine 2 CUDA tasks have completed so far but none have validated yet.

I'm hoping to get the diagnostics running tonight after I switch back to Linux.

Just to report: I now seem

Just to report:

I now seem to be able to complete CUDA tasks in both Linux and Windows. I have 3 or 4 in each pending validation but none validated.

It probably was a temperature issue, the only thing I did of any substance was blow the dust out of the heat exchangers.

While the laptop is still under warranty I could just see my conversation with with tech support:

TS: Hi, my name is Peggy, how can I help you today?
me: I need a new motherboard, the GPU is failing
TS: How do you know?
me: CUDA tasks are failing with weird error messages
TS: We seen that a lot. You need to reload Windows, you did make an install disk, dtidn't you?
me: Of course I did, but it is a dual boot machine and fails in both operating systems.
TS: We don't support dual boot system.
me: I'm not asking for software support.
TS: Yes you are. Bye.

I think you think TS will

I think you think TS will understand too much.
It's more like:

TS: Hi, my name is Peggy, how can I help you today?
you: I need a new motherboard, the GPU is failing.
TS: How do you know?
you: CUDA tasks are failing with weird error messages.
TS: What the hell is CUDA?
you: A method through which one gets lots of credits in a short time in BOINC.
TS: .....and what is BOINC?
you: Sigh.
TS: Never mind. I just checked the fine print and it appears we do not support either GPUs, CUDA or BOINC, whatever either of them are. You will not get any further support from us until you return to using that computer what it's for: games, surfing and pr0n.

:-D

well - then you know how to get support, do you? :-D

Hmmm, Science p0rn or Geek game? I'm going to have to make a hard choice when I have to make that call, either works pretty well in my case.

This is confusing the heck

This is confusing the heck out of me.

I'm getting the errors again at least in Linux. I've been running Windows for a bit and it seems to doing OK with these CUDA tasks.

I found one program that reports a temperature for the GPU seems to operate about 65C when processing and about 35 when idle. For the life of me I can't see any reason why NVidia software doesn't report temperature. If it's a hardware failure it sure is particular. I can do accelerated 3D rendering, video decoding and FFTs without a problem.

As far as error reports on the tasks, I still don't get how to match a task in the BOINC messages with a report from http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/result.php?

For example the message says:

Sun 03 Jul 2011 02:26:18 PM PDT Einstein@Home Task PM0147_034B1.dm_120_1 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file

but the task says:

Name	PM0147_034B1.dm_120_1
Workunit	100178936
Created	3 Jul 2011 6:31:47 UTC
Sent	3 Jul 2011 21:18:17 UTC
Received	3 Jul 2011 21:27:34 UTC
Server state	Over
Outcome	Client error
Client state	Compute error
Exit status	-226 (0xffffffffffffff1e)

It's the right time and the names match but the "zero status" doesn't look right.

If those names match is it the right task?
