the admins were going to look

the admins were going to look into this a few weeks back.  haven't heard anything since...  I am hoping this would take off.  Maybe they could offer shirts, sweatpants, hell even underwear to crunchers.

Just need some enterprising

Just need some enterprising individual decide to take the T-shirt project on and then solicit how much interest from forum members. Then go about figuring out the design, gathering of funds for the orders and putting the order in.  Then shipping the orders out when the product arrived.

Same way that Uli at Seti took on the procurement of the SETI 20 year anniversary T-shirts we ordered.  I still wear my two shirts I purchased.

You pretty artsy keith, wanna

You pretty artsy keith, wanna take a crack at it?  i just do stick figures. lol

Any artsy people wanna take a shot?  I can organize if someone willing to put together a picture/design.   I think its a cool idea and maybe can bring some attention to project.  I bought the Ithenia tshirt and my wife won't let me wear it around kids because she thinks it looks like a gun shot wound...

I think if the admins were to offer an einstein at home "european bathing suit' for finding a pulsar or repeating gravitational waves it might spark some more interest in the community.   ...and would probably be another thing my wife wont let me wear. lol

Just seems like an inexpensive, cool thing for the community.

anyway, if anyone has a design, just post here.  =)

Sorry, a slight retarding

Sorry, a slight retarding comment : at E@H we haven't actually found a gravitational wave yet of the type the project is tasked for. However, we try and the bounds of values that must apply for continuous regular waves keeps diminishing. It's possible that spinning neutron stars ( at least ) don't make GWs that are measurable above noise from our position within the universe. Proving that idea would still be important and not a failure - it's just the way the universe is perhaps. You have to look in order to see, eh ?

But in the electromagnetic spectrum we have done quite well, pulsars and some weird star systems examined. Twenty years for the project is coming sooner than you might think though. I do like the idea of something to commemorate, something physical and actual like a piece of clothing or a range. Some mobs will even do knick-knacks like coffee cups etc. I know there's a mob in Poland who will do a jigsaw of any picture one might have. I obtained a great photo from SpaceEx and sent that along and have my own several thousand piece puzzle showing the raw power of a Falcon 9 launch. I also know of companies in Australia that have done bespoke merchandise items for motor racing teams over the years ( I know a guy who knows a guy .... ).

As for approvals etc : if anyone, it ought include Bruce Allen as Einstein At Home is his baby after after all.

{ I should be careful what I say, lest I volunteer myself .... }

Cheers, Mike.

Haha hah LOL.  I am NOT

Haha hah LOL.  I am NOT artsy.  I can't draw a straight line.

The design should include some variation of the project standard icon of the dual pulsars with the project name.

Maybe put that on top of the background image of the Witchhead Nebula the project uses in its banner. Or another space image or whatever the member consensus likes in the design.

Then maybe the 20 year anniversary notation somewhere.

Just some suggestions.

I've been doing some research

I've been doing some research online into this idea of merchandise for E@H with respect to the 20 year anniversary.

The short answer is : it is far far simpler to pay someone else to do it. That way one can fold the cost of the product, shipping and other web related process debits into a unified entity. This can be done relatively cheaply and with good results.

The long answer is : the best business model I believe is drop-shipping, in context that means provision of goods by direct delivery from the manufacturer to the customer. This is demand driven so no inventory is required. The T-shirt, say, would only be made if an order exists with payment made. There is a small but definite forest of decisions to be made here, however there are several major ones :

  • Who is the actual drop-shipper ? They make the item and then send it out into the world.
  • Who hosts the online platform ? They present the products to sell, with all the common/usual mechanisms of payment, taxation/accounting reconciliations and process metrics.
  • What do we sell and hence what are the particular designs? We have to provide specifications to the drop-shipper.

There seems to be no shortage of companies that can fit the requirements here. The business model is simple, with the price to consumer reflecting the wholesale price etc as above. That 'retail' price has no margin or profit gained, or at least any trivial gain is held in account credit with the process managers - for a 'rainy day' or giveaways say. There is no marketing as such, as customers would simply be directed from an E@H thread to the web address to continue with their choice of goods, pay the money, select shipping and what-not.

I'll even offer myself as available to set this up - it requires no upfront monies - but only after I've done a more in-depth analysis of prospects and likely risks ( eg. how will taxation within different countries be managed ). I'll have a chat with a friend of mine who has actually done this type of stuff.

Now as for a T-shirt design, we could all collaborate upon that. Off the top of my head I would suggest that one side of the garment has some appealing graphics/logos of interest, the reverse side having a ( possibly quick/witty ) phrase and our web address eg. 'Crunch for Einstein' & 'einsteinathome.org'. But I'm just shooting the breeze here.

I'll bite the bullet and contact Professor Bruce Allen shortly.

Any comments on this anyone ?

Cheers, Mike.

Mike, you are a God send!  I for one like this idea of drop-shipping, and with you leading the way I am for that too.

We have some ideas already for appealing graphics, and your idea of putting the graphics on the front and text with 'Crunch for Einstein' & 'einsteinathome.org' on the back is also great.

Let us know what Professor Bruce Allen has to say about it.

Thanks for stepping up to the plate!
