I've sent your case off to Bernd.

Thanx!

The one result I see on Richard's WIN98 host does not show this strange effect, I'll try to do some test as well, I've got a Windows ME host (should be similar).

The one that's visible shows two full restarts. I can account for one of them (power supply failure), but not two.

The one that's running at the moment also shows a full restart at 2008-03-02 21:23:22.4099 in the slot directory - notice any similarity to my last post? All I did was a 'task suspend' and 'task resume' from BV.

This is in the log:

Einstein@Home	01/03/2008 13:47:28	Resuming task h1_0817.60_S5R3__282_S5R3b_0 using einstein_S5R3 version 426
SETI@home	01/03/2008 14:51:53	Resuming task 12dc06ah.18084.10706.8.7.99_0 using setiathome_enhanced version 527
Einstein@Home	01/03/2008 15:52:08	Resuming task h1_0817.60_S5R3__282_S5R3b_0 using einstein_S5R3 version 426
SETI@home	02/03/2008 21:20:19	Resuming task 12dc06ah.18084.10706.8.7.99_0 using setiathome_enhanced version 527
Einstein@Home	02/03/2008 21:20:38	Resuming task h1_0817.60_S5R3__282_S5R3b_0 using einstein_S5R3 version 426
Einstein@Home	02/03/2008 21:23:22	Restarting task h1_0817.60_S5R3__282_S5R3b_0 using einstein_S5R3 version 426

Notice how Einstein spent 29.5 hours before doing a task switch (I've been away for the weekend), and then did a spontaneous restart three minutes after I paused/resumed it. The task is only showing 9.25 hours CPU / 8.3% progress as I type - that's about in balance, a WU takes something over 4 days on that machine.

If this doesn't get fixed

If this doesn't get fixed soon, I'm out of here. There are lots of other projects running smoothly.

It is a BOINC problem, not an application problem. A temporary fix is in BOINC 5.10.45, the fix works for some and not for others.

It'll be fixed in BOINC 6, but there is no ETA on when this version will be released.
