As a result of V5.1.4 being installed, is your machine now downloading replacements for the ghost work units that were shown on the website? In other words is the feature working correctly and are you being flooded with work? :).

yes the first time i ran it it downloaded about 20 wu, and its hasnt run out since, although its early days yet, i'll keep you posted...

im not sure how im supposed to tell if the wu's downloaded are to replace "lost" ones

regards

adream

Check on the website and look at the block of WUs that were sent to you on the 22nd Sept. There are 14 in a contiguous block. Some were actually processed at that time. See how there are now 3 that are red and 4 where the sent date has changed to 27th Sept?

Here's my take on this and I'm only guessing. 7 out of the original 14 were ghosts. When the new version of BOINC was installed and reported the ghosts back to the server it would have reported all 7. However 3 had already reached a quorum so there was no point in resending those. The server simply told the client to forget about those three. The other 4 hadn't reached a quorum so the server (knowing this) simply sent them again and updated the "sent" date to the current time - 27 Sep 2005 15:00:05 UTC. Now you can see that those 4 have crunched and been validated so all is well.

Congratulations to Bruce, David Anderson and anyone else involved!! Very impressive behaviour!! Anyone with ghost problems should be using this version!!

Cheers,
Gary.

They are alpha versions, so may not be stable. When the 5.2 release client comes out, it'll be told all over the boards though.

You are correct in your description, Gary. If a ghost WU is no longer needed, then it won't be resent. Anyway, let's see if adream now gets enough work to keep his fast CPUs busy!
