Connection to Internet?

Does BOINC expect your computer to always be connected to the internet, even when your computer is idle and working on a project/task? The reason I'm asking is because I'm getting a lot of stoppages due to BOINC not being able to connect to the "local host". This has been happening before a work unit is finished, and when I'm not connected to the internet. Once I connect to the internet, BOINC updates something and the error messages go away. Will this continue to happen if I stay offline, and are the only solutions to be either connected to the internet at all times or have BOINC set up to automatically connect to the internet when needed?

Connection to Internet?

BentStar --

You need to go to your account page, and call up the General Preferences. By changing the parameter "connect to the internet/project about: " line, you can change how often the program tries to poll the project. Most people that have dial-up use the value of "1" or more. This causes a larger group of WUs to be downloaded, but don't get greedy -- if you start returning them late, it'll restrict the amount of work you can get.

You can also suspend network

You can also suspend network activity. That'll stop BOINC from trying to contact the project servers.

However, you shouldn't need any sort of internet connection to keep the different parts of BOINC talking to each other.

You do, however need a connection to BOINC.exe on port 31416. This is the connection to the local host that is missing. BOINCMgr.exe talks to BOINC.exe on the local loop back address 127.0.0.1.
