I picked up 512.15 - 64-Bit Win 10 Driver, (gaming), and it installed flawlessly. I noticed
in GPU-Z that 512.15 has OpenCL stripped out, but ALL the other hardware specs are Checked. (CUDA,
VULKAN, etc.)
Asked if he had used DDU to clean everything out and if he had grabbed the driver directly from Nvidia and NOT from Microsoft.
Quote:
I DID Download the 512.15 WHQL Gaming Driver, (Studio NOT available for the 970), DIRECT from NVIDIA.
I performed a CLEAN Install, too.
I checked myself at the Nvidia download driver site. He is correct. You cannot download anything BUT the Gaming driver for the 970 anymore. Based on his GPU-Z report and on the clinfo report, the 510 series Gaming drivers for the 970 do not contain OpenCL anymore.
I think the problem was that i uninstall AMD drivers and software but i didn't use AMD Utility cleanup tool before i installed Nvidia drivers. Nvidia drivers was ok but i erased OpenCL with AMD Utility cleanup tool.
I erased OpenCL.
Now tasks are stuck on downloading and the time to finish task is the same as before, even i have much stronger GPU.

Just click to retry the stuck tasks.
As for the same time to finish estimate Einstein needs to learn that your new gpu can do them faster, since everyones setup is slightly different Einstein is using the previous completion times, it will come down as you complete and return your tasks but it will take time.

It's more likely that he did something wrong, or experienced some corruption somewhere in the process. his reply to you about doing a clean install was somewhat ambiguous. does 'clean install' mean he ran DDU? or that he selected the clean instal option in the nvidia installation? I'm guessing he did not run DDU.
GPUz only reports if openCL is working, not if the components are stripped from the driver.
if openCL was missing from the gaming drivers, there would be a LOT of people having issues here on Einstein and elsewhere online. but google searches like "nvidia 512 driver missing OpenCL" turn up nothing to suggest or confirm that this is the case. only case by case instances where there was some problem with the driver install. the 510+ windows drivers, even the gaming drivers, still include openCL. There's no difference in the driver for the 970 GPU vs the driver for 3050. they are both supported by the same driver. the Studio driver was only ever available for Pascal and up. It was never available for Maxwell and prior, so it's not like they removed it. it was just never there. Furthermore, the Studio driver is just a Gaming driver that has had a bit more testing to ensure stability. it's not different in any other way.
This is Scott's reply about your question about installation.

Keith,
I DID use DDU to Uninstall ALL Drivers. THEN performed a Clean Install from NVIDIA Driver 388.13 on DVD/CD from a
GTX-1050 spare GPU in Box that I have on hand. STILL NO OpenCL in GPU-Z, AND, NOW because 388.13 DOES NOT
have Vulkan onboard, now Vulkan is "Unchecked" in GPU-Z as well. I DID expect that.
I HAVE NO CLUE as to why OpenCL refuses to Install on your old card in this System. This is the FIRST and ONLY time that
I've EVER experienced ANYTHING like this. I've ALWAYS had OpenCL AND CUDA install without issues prior to this.
IN FACT, using the exact same DVD/CD of 388.13 on my brother's Mac Pro, (a twin to this System), OpenCL WAS and STILL IS
present on his System. Just not on mine.
So, right now the only thing I can think of is that the card is not advertising OpenCL capability so the drivers don't install the OpenCL component.
The only way I can think that can happen is if the BIOS that MacVidCards flashed onto the card removed OpenCL from its capability.
I advised Scott to contact that vendor and ask if their BIOS has that capability removed or whether they botched the flashing in some fashion.
Do have any other thoughts on why the card does not show OpenCL. I thought about clinfo but that is just looking for what the driver reports, not whether the card has the capability inherently. What other tool can be used to check for that?
[Edit]
Scott ran DDU again and again found old AMD drivers and the generic Windows drivers installed.
This time he removed the WiFi connection before rebooting and was able to get his old 388 drivers off the CD to install the OpenCL component.
Leaving the internet connection in place is what probably got the generic Windows driver installed again.
So he has OpenCL again. Thanks for the comment about corruption still existing in his system. Got him to retry the install for the 3rd time which was the charm.
There’s an option in the DDU preferences to prevent windows from installing drivers. He should make sure that’s checked. Then he won’t have to worry about windows jumping the gun. Probably not necessary to wipe it all out and do it again, but just for future reference.
doing it all from safe mode is also the most complete removal.
I'll mention about the DDU option for preventing Windows driver reinstalls upon reboot.
He was using SAFE mode but he is sufficiently snake-bit by now to just stand pat on the old 388 drivers and doesn't want to tempt fate with trying the 512 series again.
The only selling point would be that if he updates his drivers to the 470+ (any, doesn’t have to be the 512 latest) he can get the new 1.28 app which has large gains over the 1.18 app he’ll be stuck with with that old driver.
Hey, just to let you know that i started to do work. I gived up and after one week i removed Einstain@home from Boinc and aded again but nothing. Then i noticed that you tube was slowing down when loading. I had downloading issues with work also. I downloaded driver booster and updated Network drivers and everything was ok after that.
I get sometimes around 300 seconds and sometimes more then 500 with this GPU.

I’ve not heard that the gaming driver lacks OpenCL on Windows. Pretty sure it still has OpenCL.
