ROFLMAO ! :-) :-)

Ah Bill we awoke to said Garkle, then to much hilarity as to your helpful hint ... :-)

@Phil : Chicago Steel at Gary Works ? They're making a time machine.

[ Has the Argonne National Lab put in new supercomputer at Uni of Chicago, some quantum Cray beasty ? A data center using shipping containers ? ]

Many Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Hmm, multiple guesses from

Hmm, multiple guesses from Mike again...more demerits.

Since time is short.

Previous hints:

Hint #1: The rate of increase in density is decreasing.
Hint #2: Come on in fellas, the water is smooth...oh wait, that's cause it's oily.
Hint #3: Is it just me or is it getting warm in here?
Hint #4: Pop goes the weasel.
Hint #5: Since the answer is of terrestrial origin, your quest will lead you to the city of winds. Search for a little known establishment known as Cafe Einstein, the knowledge you seek lies within. Partially Answered: Chicago.
Hint #6: While the object of the quest may be many, in the end there can be only one.
Hint #7: It IS dark inside.
Hint #8: Parallels can take you a long way, or a short way, the choice is yours.
Hint #9: If Hint #8 makes no sense to you, please refer back to Hint #5. The Cafe, a place of good cheer, is the proverbial forest that can't be seen because of all the dang trees. All paths lead to the forest. The future of the quest lies in your past.
Hint #10: The shell is as hard as steel.

Blatant Hint #11: Don't overlook the obvious. I have twisted your minds, troubled your very souls, and perhaps I have been too harsh. Mayhap my mind is, indeed, the devils playground. Better yet, maybe, just maybe, the answer you seek, the ointment to sooth the fiery sting of failure, is contained in this very forum.

Translation: If your guess does not come from the Einstein@Home Cafe Einstein forum, then it is bound to be wrong.

To be fair, the attempts posted since my last appearance here contain a tidbit of information that borders on being in the right direction.

Tick Tock...

Phil

I think Mikey owns the tidbit

I think Mikey owns the tidbit about parallels...

Unless I'm wrong, of course.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Phil

Edit: I think after this is all over and ya'll have implemented your various methods of torture on me, I'm going to Australia for some Garkle hunting. Is that anything like Snipe hunting here at home?

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.

Ha! It's a brake reservoir

Ha! It's a brake reservoir tank on the tram that David's involved in, which is going to err .... lap or slap or pop or whatever .... and release the pressure so that he can move off. That would have to be on the 11th at 11am local time as that's going to be part of the WWI armistice remembrance !! :-)

[ I'm assuming Phil already knows he's evil, 'cos someone would have told him that sometime already by his age .... ]

Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) Garkles : I'm not sure hunting is the right word here, there no shortage of them and they are in your face alright. While they are loud I think that means they are stupid too. Hmmmm. Might be like shooting fish in a barrel ... :-)

We have a winner! Hints

We have a winner!

Hints explained as follows:

Hint #1: The rate of increase in density is decreasing.
Answer: As pressure increases in an air tank, the rate of increase will slow because of almost equal pressures in the tank and from the air compressor.

Hint #2: Come on in fellas, the water is smooth...oh wait, that's cause it's oily.
Answer: The condensate water in an air tank contains small amounts of oil from the air compressor.

Hint #3: Is it just me or is it getting warm in here?
Answer: Air increases in temperature as it is compressed.

Hint #4: Pop goes the weasel.
Answer: A reference to the "pop-off" valve which releases air to limit the pressure in a tank to safe levels.

Hint #5: Since the answer is of terrestrial origin, your quest will lead you to the city of winds. Search for a little known establishment known as Cafe Einstein, the knowledge you seek lies within. Partially Answered: Chicago. Self-explanatory: The object is in Chicago, the answer is in this forum.

Hint #6: While the object of the quest may be many, in the end there can be only one.
Answer: There are millions of air reservoirs in the world. I was looking for a specific one.

Hint #7: It IS dark inside.
Answer: An air tank is closed, very dark.

Hint #8: Parallels can take you a long way, or a short way, the choice is yours.
Answer: A reference to the rails of a railroad track.

Hint #9: If Hint #8 makes no sense to you, please refer back to Hint #5. The Cafe, a place of good cheer, is the proverbial forest that can't be seen because of all the dang trees. All paths lead to the forest. The future of the quest lies in your past.
Answer: See #5

Hint #10: The shell is as hard as steel.
Answer: It's as hard as steel because it IS steel.

Answer: Self-Explanatory

My comment about Mikeys guess is what triggered Mikes brain, finally, took him long enough.
Mikey said: "Could it be The Rainforest Cafe in Chicago on one of the rail lines?" which made him look at rails. Am I right Mike?

Congratulations to Mike!!!

Your turn. Be gentle...

Phil
