RUN time: ONLY 2.5 - 6.5 min; till now I've completed 10 of them, with half of them (the shorter ones - ?!?) finishing with 'Error while computing' with the message:

If you check the full details of the output you'll notice that BOINC's error message is in fact:
Maximum disk usage exceeded
That's why it told our app to quit prematurely (and hence the message you quoted)...
However, this could very well be a problem with the definition of the workunits accidentally released, rather than with your actual free disk space, so don't worry.

Some types of WU do only seem to report in 5% increments - I've noticed that as well.
