Yes you will find that when

Yes you will find that when you change your preference settings you have to wait until you do the next Boinc Manager Update to get new tasks so you let the server know.

And that a few things add to how you want to set up different GPU cards with slots and depending on the CPU versions and Ram.

I have several versions and I just do what seems to work the best since I run BRP PAS tasks X3 and X4 with two 650Ti's and two slightly different 500Ti's and a 660Ti all overclocked

Basically the setting to run those BRP PAS tasks X2 is .....

GPU utilization factor of BRP apps 0.5

and X3 is.....

GPU utilization factor of BRP apps 0.33

and X4 is....

GPU utilization factor of BRP apps 0.25

These are mine http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/hosts_user.php

I have a few different OS and CPU versions (3-core,4-core,and 8-core)

But another thing added to mine is vLHC X2 tasks so that changes the time a bit and Atlas tasks on a few of them but I always leave a core free for those GPU tasks.

Hi, Yup you're right

Hi,
Yup you're right again:-)
Just started 2 BRP5 WU:-

PB0025_011D1_314_1
PB0048_01241_352_1

waiting to see how they get on..

The 2 BRP4 took 1hr 4min roughly, just about 12-13 mins faster than 2 done individually with the times added.

But its still an improvement over the prior situation.

Regards,

Cliff,

Been there, Done that, Still no damm T Shirt.

RE: These are mine

You have the EXACT same pc's I do!! Actually that link brings up each individual users pc's, my pc's in this case. To get to yours I just click on your name on the left and then View where it says 'computers. I could also do it this way:

to see Cliff's pc's
http://einsteinathome.org/account/143323/computers

and to see Magic's pc's
http://einsteinathome.org/account/82814/computers

and to see my pc's
http://einsteinathome.org/account/25703/computers

The difference being a user id is now specified.

My pc's will be back online later today or tomorrow, I had to take a short trip and turned them off.

See Mikey? That is what

See Mikey?

That is what happens when I am typing late at night in the dark watching tv

I just pasted that in without noticing I forgot the number at the end!

(btw I got all of mine running again so after taking a break after installing Win7 four different times and all 170+ updates I am going to try again to get that one host to finally recognize your video card!! )

I will let you know (of course sunday I have a few NFL games to watch)

Mine all came back on with no problems, other than Windows wanting to check for updates on some of them, which I promptly stopped! I hope to build the new one tomorrow or Tuesday, I too have football games to watch, and had an F1 race this morning to watch first. I am enjoying the lull inbetween right now.

NO worries about the card, get to it when you can!

Hi guys, @ Cliff I'm

Hi guys,

@ Cliff

I'm really intersted in your runtime for BRP5 tasks. Let it run for a couple of days and write down how long it takes to complete one taks. Take five different values and calculate the average.

I have some new numbers, too. I've also upgraded to 2011-3, an i7 5820K instead of my "old" i7 4790K, so the numbers may not be 100% comparable (however no changes in GPU, still a reference GTX 980, so those should still be comparable).

BRP5-cuda32-nv301, 5 GPU tasks, 8 CPU tasks (!)

14 Oct 2014 23,383.04
14 Oct 2014 23,460.16
13 Oct 2014 23,692.38
13 Oct 2014 23,677.88
12 Oct 2014 23,698.97

AVG 23582s
Power draw (system, worst case): 265W (quite amazing, only a couple of W than before with my 1150 socket).

@ Gary

Thanks for your reply. It makes sense, it's all about "helping out" so I really should be running CPU tasks as well. It doesn't have a negative impact or only little. GPU performance seems to drop a bit, power draw goes up... but not by much if you think about it. 8 CPU tasks running simultaneously...not bad.

Hi, I used the same setting

Hi, I used the same setting for all applications on GPU, which is a ATI HD5870
GPU at first whithout problems.
I have 2 HD5870 GPU's, each running 2 applications, the CPU is a [Sandy Bridge]
or 2nd generation core I7-2600, hyper threading ON. So 8 cores, 16 Gbytes DDR3
1600MHz DRAM. And all cores are running CPU applications and also drive
the GPU 's, whithout causing trouble.
In this case the total power draw is 475 Watt, PSU is 1000 Watt.
The computer has to be responsive even when the CPU is fully loaded, so 100% load.

I also have 1 monitor attached on each GPU. These GPU's have 1GByte DDR5 RAM
this can cause trouble, lack off memory when opening web-sites or other graphic
applications when running 2 or more Einstein applications.
So make sure how much memory you GPU has!
I started with 2 applications per GPU, but I've changed it to 1 application
becoarse the GPU load is about 85% when running 2 applications, making a lot off
noice and heat.
Ofcoarse this is a personal choice! I don't know if these cards are made to run
whith such a high load all the time?!

Isn 't the GTX980 a double GPU card? In this case you can double the amount off applications, but make sure your GPU has enough memory!
Hoping this post will be helpfull . . .;^)

I also run SETI M(ulti)B(eam) and AstroPulse tasks and noticed the ATI HD5870
uses less CPU runtime compaired to several NVidia GPU's.
In both Einstein and SETI GPU applications it isn't necessary to reserve a CPU
core to drive the GPU's.

Maybe somebody can check this running Einsteins GPU
applicastions if it's necessary to reserve a CPU core to drive the (NVidia)
GPU's ?

Obviously I should have read the previous posts ;-)
I'm going to compaire CPU runtime between ATI/AMD and NVidia GPU's and time to complete a work unit.
