I opened the 3080, cleaned the top of the GPU and the underside of the heatsink with 70% isopropyl. The underside of the heatsink is very rough, I was always taught that it should be as smooth and shiny as possible. The factory limits the paste to just the area of the GPU, but the recommendation on multiple websites is to add more paste around the surface of the heatsink, just outside the boundary of the GPU.
Now my GPU memory temps are at 92 degrees C, (down from 108), which was constantly throttling back and causing the monitor to flash off for a split second, every 2 or 3 minutes. The fever, she is broken.
(I tried to add some images in this comment, but it turns out I would first need to publish them on a separate website ... sorry)
the default is 1.0 which is 1 task at a time, change it to 0.5 and you will do 2 tasks at a time, o.33 and you will do 3 at a time and 0.25 and you will do 4 at a time etc etc
