I am a member of the LIGO Laboratory at Caltech. I am responsible for the Data and Computing Group in the Laboratory. I joined LIGO in 1994, when its construction was just beginning. It has been an exciting and rewarding 11 years!
My primary interest in the search for stochastic gravitational waves -- the gravitational wave analog to the primordial cosmic microwave background in the electromagnetic spectrum.
I love to hike and fly fish. Classical and ancient music are my preferences.
Einstein@home is an obvious way to attract people to help us search for gravitational waves. Some of the searches we can do require unimaginable amounts of computer time. Enlisting the enthusiastic participation of people who want to help is a great idea.
Anyone who has seen Contact knows that *really* intelligent aliens would have communicated with us by modulating gravitational wave signals -- much more sophisticated than electromagnetic waves...
