Your mainboard supports 2 cards in 8x / 8x mode, whereas 3 would run as 8x / 4x / 4x. PCIe 3 4x would hinder a high-end...

Thanks, but your GTX770 is a Kepler, not a Maxwell. The problem doesn't apply to them. Maybe I should have been more clear...
