I usually have one computer running all the time. A couple of years ago i was looking for a job, that could be done in the background. I found SETI and joined this project (seti classical), because the screensaver was very nice..
I usually upgrade my computers at least once a year, so a lot of spare power is available. This is why i joined some other projects, mostly scientific ones.
