Okay, kind of a silly reason to make a new thread, but I'm so happy to see some new work that I'm like a kid at Christmas waiting to unwrap a gift!
It's not even started yet, but I'll be sure to report when it's done. :)

Woohoo! I got my first S5R4 task. :-D
)
Possibly a great reason to start a new thread.
I, too, see some downloading of S5R4 files.
This is odder than it sounds, as the three hosts which have S5R4 material in mid-transfer and already downloaded all have ap_info.xml files without any entry for S5R4.
Worse, they all have very high queue settings--leftover from my attempt to help out with the end of S5R3 and not run out during transition--so they are now hogging bandwidth while still having plenty of unfinished S5R3.
So I've chopped the "maintain enough work for an addition" n.nn days setting drastically, and hope they shall stop requesting more soon. (I also had network activity turned off, but something about my setup seems to cause that setting to be ignored).
Just for interest, the S5R4 work I've seen going to my hosts includes frequencies of:
0129.nn
018n.nn
0216.nn
After typing that, I thought to check whether an application had been downloaded. No, it has not, as expected if anonymous platform mode is induced by the presence of an ap_info.xml file.
But then, why the downloads (and on just one host, eight complete files totalling 32 Megabytes actually arrived, in addition to others attempted)?
Sounds a bit like a bug somewhere, to me.
Yet more checking after typing--so just after the time stamp of the eight successful downloads, my message log contains a message advising me to remove ap_info.xml. No new full file downloads have completed in the hour since that message--so maybe something got fixed, or maybe this is normal behavior and it has to waste some transfers before it notices the futility.
Same here, I received 10

Same here,
I received 10 S5R4 files, even though I have an app_info.xml for the optimized SSE2 Linux app.
While reading in the SETI forums this night I noticed that SETI has the same problem. A lot of people use an optimized client via the app_info.xml, but some people received work units for Astropulse which they definitely didn't have in their config.

That is interesting. Could be some re-refining of the WU time variance parameters ahead! :-)
It's a nuffie question, but I forgot in what way we are looking differently in R4 vs R3. A new dataset for sure, meaning stuff collected at other times at the IFO's, but sticking with the same chopping tactic of the skygrid ( declination & right ascension ) and hierarchical strategy?
Cheers, Mike.

Yes, Bernd said the skygrid-partitioning will be the same in S5R4.
S5R4 differences: the use of "weights" in the analysis (if I understand this correctly, it's about taking into account that the IFOs are not equally sensitive in all directions).
Also the data reported back was extended, probably making postprocessing easier. Neither of these changes should influence runtime a lot, tho.

I wouldn't mind getting some of those S5R4's right now.
Or maybe be able to send in the 10 or so finished .........
{edit} And as I am typing this all of mine are sent in and recieved and I got a bunch of S5R4's to do now.
Now I can stop staring at the monitors for a while.
Got my first. No problem
)
Got my first. No problem getting the app only little slow server must be loaded with work at the moment, had deleted my app_info earlier. Now only waiting on how to write one that allow me to do both S5R4 and resend of S5R3 if I get some of those.
RE: Got my first. No

If you could let us know the exact name of the app(s) you have received it would be helpful in constructing a suitable app_info.xml.
At the moment there are apps whose versions are both 5.0x and 6.0x that are branded S5R4 that I can find in the download directory on the server. The 5.0x apps are dated 27 July and the 6.0x ones are dated 4 August.
It would be really helpful to know exactly what you got.
Cheers,
Gary.

Ta muchly.
Neat taking in the antenna sensitivity function, it's peanut-ish ( long axis vertical from corner station ) but nulls in the ground plane along lines @ 45 degrees to the arms.
Doesn't sound likely, just a bigger pile going back.
Cheers, Mike.

did anyone receive S5R4_5.0-something apps ?
RE: Same here, I received

Yes, this seems to be a general problem in BOINC when there are two applications on offer, but only one of them is specified in app_info.xml.
