The demand for main memory of the recent Einstein WUs gone outrageous. More than one GB per WU! When the CPU has a lot of cores (+HT) it can fill only a fraction of them, especially if the other BOINC projects I run have only little amount of work.
Is there a switch were I can select to get tasks with less memory demand? And if not, why?

I presume you are referring to the Gravity Wave search. The Hi ones are using 1.2Gb on my systems at the moment. The tuning run ones went up to 1.8Gb depending on work unit frequency. The Lo are using about 670Mb. You could change your project preferences to select the Lo only and see if that helps.

I think the project makes the high versus low selection based on your reported CPU type. I don't think you can use project preferences to switch the work delivered to be the other type, although you can turn it off altogether.
