I downloaded some work and everything went fine, now I'm starting to get this message:
No work sent: there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated.
and
Not enough disk space (only 85.3MB free for BOINC)
I have one hard disk with 3 virtual drives with the smallest drive having 2GB of free space. My preferences state to leave 0.1GB and 50% of total space free.
Why am I receiving this error? Also, can I select what drive it uses or does it automatically use the drive installed on?

No work sent - Not Enough Disk Space???
)
Guido,
There have been some other similar reports posted recently. Check this thread Message boards : Problems and Bug Reports : no disk space. Quite frankly we don't know what is causing the problem right now so we would like your help in trying to figure things out. Have you made any changes to BOINC recently (like adding a project or changing resource shares)? Or have you noticed any other problems related to your disc drive? Also, it is possible that the problem can be fixed by simply refreshing/updating your Disc settings under "General preferences" at "Your account" on the Einstein web-site. If this works for you, please let us know.

EDIT: Also can you post your messages from under your BOINC Manager "Messages" tab?

I'll try to answer your questions:
I installed BOINC and only Einstein last week and had the PC running all weekend. This morning I saw the "not enough disk space" message quite a few times.
Today I installed Rosetta and LCH. Instead of only 85.3MB free, Rosetta is giving me the same error but says I only have 100.0MB free. There's no work for LHC.
Besides adding the 2 projects above, I haven't changed anything else with BOINC.
I don't notice any problems with my disc drive, but I nomally exit BOINC when I'm working on the PC. I do leave Limewire running, and notice that this automatically disconnects when BOINC is running. Don't know if that means anything.
Not sure what you mean by refreshing preferences, but I went into my account and click edit preference, and saved without changing anything.
RE: Not sure what you mean
)
Sorry, I could have been a little clearer. I meant saving your preferences (as if you had made some changes), then doing a Project "Update" for Einstein from BOINC Manager.
RE: I have one hard disk
)
Your problem is probably caused by the preference that says to "Use no more than 50% of total disk space. If you had a 2.0GB partition, BOINC must stop using it once the free space drops to 1.0GB (ie 50% used 50% free). Other programs will keep reducing the free space as they create files and all of a sudden when you least expect it, BOINC will refuse to do any more work.
The solution is to make this preference large - say 80% so that your free space could drop to 0.4GB in a 2.0GB partition before BOINC would refuse to work. If you were prepared to only leave 0.1GB free, you could make this preference 95% if you had a 2.0GB partition. Think carefully about that and you should see that the default of 50% is actually quite restrictive and is likely to cause problems in large sized partitions.
All of BOINC's files reside in the folder (and hence the partition) where BOINC is installed. Whilst the default is for BOINC to be installed on C:, you can install BOINC wherever you like. It's safe to pick a big partition with lots of free space but don't overly restrict BOINC's use of that free space.
Cheers,
Gary.
OK I did that, and now
)
OK I did that, and now Einstein is downloading one line under the WORK heading.
I did the same thing for Rosetta (update preferences) and now it too is downloading an item.
I think there's no work for LHC so I detached it.
I'm going to leave it running overnight and will post the results tomorrow.
OK I increased it to 95% just
)
OK I increased it to 95% just to see what happens (but it did start working when left at 50%).
If I notice I need more free space for other software, how can I "purge" the disc memory BOINC is using up? Will exiting it work? Or do I need to delete certain working files?
In case it means anything: BOINC is not installed on my C drive, but my G drive, which is a partition of my HDD and is the default for program installation. BOINC did recognize G as the drive to install to.
I just checked and my
)
I just checked and my partition sizes are: 12GB, 18.7, 25.1.
The software is installed on the 25.1GB partition, with 6.79GB free space.
This morning I found 4 items
)
This morning I found 4 items under the WORK heading. 2 Einstein and 2 Rosetta.
Einstein is at 87.4% progress and 0.0%. Both say Activities Suspended.
Rosetta has one at 20.0% and the other at 100%. They say Activities Suspended and Computation Error respectively.
It's currently not doing anything.
I don't know what else it did overnight besides these.

If you haven't been keeping up with the thread I pointed you to earlier, you might want to catch up on it now. However, we are still waiting for a post from Gary Roberts on the subject. In the meantime, you might want to exit BOINC (by right clicking on the icon in the system tray) and then restart it. Don't know if this will help, but it should reload the global prefs file that has the disc settings in it that got screwed up last time. Please post back after trying this.
Check your General

Check your General preferences here and your General preferences on Rosetta.
What does it say on both sites for:

Do work only between the hours of ??
Then exit Boinc Manager and restart it. What does it say for:
