I have been running seti@home for years. I have an established BOINC account for seti now, but I'm afraid that when I created this einstein account, it's completely separate from my seti account.
This is apparent because when I change my general preferences and save them, there is a message at the top of the screen that says something like "this will affect all BOINC projects under this account." But when I check my general prefs in seti and einstein, they're still different.
How do I link my new einstein and climate accounts to my old SETI account so that I can manage their preferences under one umbrella?

As long as you used exactly the same email address on each project then it will all happen automatically. Check out your CPID (cross-project ID) at the bottom of your website account page for each project. If you used a common email address and if those CPIDs are currently different, they will eventually line-up if you have at least one machine where the three projects are all attached. You need to allow enough time for work to be returned and credited and for BOINC to notice that it's really you on each project and then your various CPIDs will change to be the same on each project.
Please just check out "CPID" in various FAQs and in the Wiki. It's all there.
Cheers,
Gary.

All things being equal you need to update the other project so it knows the changes have been made......

Actually, you don't, as it will all happen automatically during one of the normal periodic updates that happen from time to time. One of the many qualities of BOINC is that it will generally do better if left to its own devices.

Gary.

An update is an update whether it be automatic or manual.

The CPID is the same. I checked all three projects: einstein, climate, and seti.
However, when I change my general preferences in one project, and then look at my general preferences in another project, they are still different. I have to manually sync them up. (General prefs, not project-specific prefs.)
I have tried setting my general prefs in one project, then hitting Update in BOINC for that project, waiting for the messages to say "preferences updated", then hitting update for the other two projects, and then checking my general prefs again on the web site.
Each time, the prefs are out of sync. Is the problem a lack of patience on my part? Will they sync up if I leave them alone for 24 hours?

Eh, nevermind. I just dug through the documentation and it says basically "hold your horses and it will happen."
RTFM. :-p
I design normalized databases for a living, so I panic when my data isn't matching up. :)
RE: An update is an update

Of course you are absolutely correct, but the problem is that most people interpret comments about updating as if there is an urgent need to go do something immediately rather than letting BOINC do its thing in its own good time. Having now seen how many people actually interpret "update the project" as all sorts of much stronger action like "reset" or "abort", etc, I think we should be very reluctant to tell people to do anything other than to have patience.
Cheers,
Gary.
RE: I design normalized

Perfectly understandable reaction :). Your comment about waiting 24hrs was spot on :). It does take time and the change in preferences will filter through if you leave things alone. Myself, I'm often impatient and go and make the change on all three websites just to get it done. There is actually some suggestion that we may eventually get pref changes implemented in the BOINC manager as a way of simplifying the process and making it more convenient for the user.
Cheers,
Gary.
RE: Your comment about
)
Ok. So, I'm trying to be patient here, but I must be missing something. I'm using SETI as my "master preferences" account. I make all changes there, and wait for replication to ClimatePrediction and Einstein. ClimatePrediction picked up my new "home" prefs, but Einstein still only shows "default" and "work" even after waiting for about three days now.
How long should I be patient before assuming the system has failed me? I double-checked and my CPID's match.
RE: RE: Your comment

You may want to set your host's venue at this project. The client should pick up the venue from the same project where the preferences were set, but setting it redundantly can't hurt.
